Superintendent of Schools Columbia University Kalamazoo College Mr. Rich is the chief administrative otlicer of the Lansing Public Schools and as such has cer- tain responsibilities prescribed by law as well as responsibility for the supervision and direction of the total school program delegated to him by the Board of Education. Mr. Averill, as deputy superintendent, has as his primary duty the direction and supervision of the instructional program and is directly re- sponsible to Mr. Rich. He is responsible for supervision of all the instructional and super- visory personnel in the school system. Mr. Partington, as assistant superintendent, has charge of the employment, placement, assign- ment, transfer and termination of contracts for teachers and is responsible, in an indirect and supervisory nature, for the employment and Working Conditions of all other school employees. The Board of Education is composed of seven members of the community who are equipped to bring to the administration of the public schools the benefits of their knowledge by train- ing and experience. f . CHRISTIAN H. ROOSENRAAD B.A., lNI.A. Principal Hope College University of Michigan Columbia University Mr. Roosenraad, as principal of J. W. Sexton High School, is directly responsible to the Super- intendent of Schools and through him to the Board of Education. He has general supervision of the educational program and personnel of our high school. His aim is to encourage and promote growth and adjustment, both mental and physi- cal, in all students. He maintains close relations with parents and the community, and he par- ticipates actively in local, state, and national professional organizations. Assisting Mr. Roosenraad in carrying out these objectives is Miss Lawry, assistant principal. The supervision of the extra-curricular program is her special responsibility. As director of the counseling program, she assists students in choos- ing colleges and vocations, in securing scholar- ships, and in generally making a good adjustment in Sextion High School. Mr. Shaft, now assistant principal, took over the responsibilities of Mr. Clark at the end of the first semester. He advises the Student Coun- cil and has charge of all problems arising in the field of discipline. He also supervises the at- tendance records throughout the school. F. CASSIUS SHAFT ELIZABETH B.
