Superintendent of Schools Columbia University Kalamazoo College Mr. Rich is the chief administrative officer of the Lansing Public Schools and as such has cer- tain responsibilities prescribed by law as well as responsibility for the supervision and direction of the total school program delegated to him by the Board of Education. Mr. Averill, as deputy superintendent, has as his primary responsibility direction and super- vision of the instructional program and is directly responsible to Mr. Rich. He has responsibility for supervision of all the instructional and super- visory personnel in the school system. Mr. Partington, as assistant superintendent, is delegated by Mr. Rich the responsibility for personnel. He has direct supervision over the employment, placement, assignment, transfer and termination of contracts for teachers and is responsible in an indirect and supervisory nature for the employment and working conditions of all other school employees. In addition to these major fields of activity both Mr. Averill and Mr. Partington are fre- quently given special assignments by the superin- tendent whenever there are special jobs which demand the attention of members of the adminis- trative staff at this level. CHRISTIAN H. ROOSENRAAD B.A., M.A. Principal Hope College University of Michigan Columbia University Mr. Roosenraad, as principal of I. W. Sexton High School, is responsible directly to the Super- intendent of Schools and through him to the Board of Education. He has general supervision of the educational program and personnel of our high school. His aim is to encourage and promote growth and adjustment, both mental and physical, in all students. He maintains close relations with parents and the community, and he participates actively in local, state, and national professional organizations. Assisting Mr. Roosenraad in carrying out these objectives is Miss Lawry, assistant principal. The supervision of the extra-curricular program is her special responsibility. As director of the counseling program, she assists students in choos- ing colleges and vocations, in securing scholar- ships, and in generally making a good adjustment in Sexton High School. Mr. Clark, assistant principal, also fulfills cer- tain responsibilities delegated by Mr. Roosen- raad. He advises the Student Council. He has charge of all problems arising in the field of dis- cipline, and he supervises the attendance records throughout the school. ELIZABETH B.
