. Svc Our New Alma Mater In this modern age when the enigmas of our universe are being revealed through great scientific achievements, education is of great essence. Having a school equipped with modern facilities, such as ours, offers great opportuni- ties of which we should all take advantage. The following are some of these facilities: this year we are exceedingly fortunate in having fully equipped phys- ics and chemistry laboratories, complete with a closed-circuit television. Every student should appreciate this whether they take these advanced sciences or not. This year's biology laboratory has been improved and a new earth science course has been added to the curriculum. Included among our new facilities is the language laboratory. Never before has Sewickley High School been able to offer its students a more profitable piece of equipment. The high school office has been equipped with an intercom system which enables our principal to relay impor- tant messages to the teachers and to the students. The library this year is supplied with everything from Abandoned Mine Mystery by Norwin Pallas to Zoo Expedition by William Bridges. The new Home Economics Department has many comforts of home-a sofa, stereo hi-fi, and wall-to-wall carpet- ing. This year the home economic students have new courses, such as ceramics, Swedish embroidering, flower ar- ranging, and interior decorating. The Homemaking Course is open to boys as well as to girls. e been installed, such as a twenty-inch drill press, an eight-inch shaper, a vertical milling plane, and a half-ton hoist. The shop offers an elementary course in electricity and home mechanics for girls, also. As to the musical aspects of the school, a large, new band room and the acoustics give the band members a relaxed surrounding while practicing music. The choral room, where the different choruses meet, also doubles as a T.V. room. Students that have chorus for one period every day will be given ahalf credit. The dictaphones and the new electric typewriters in the Commercial Department help prepare commercial stu- dents more fully for their respective business careers. W Kilns have been installed in the Art Department to aid the students in the making of ceramics. Let us now look at the non-educational aspects of our school: the lobby with the hanging staircase, the flagstone floor, and the abstract chandelier, is certainly an attractive asset to our new school. The auditorium having paneled walls, carpeting, and cushioned seats adds a touch of luxury to our assemblies. The spacious cafeteria with its bright-colored glass provides a pleasant atmosphere while we are eating. The landscaped courtyard is a recreational area where our students may spend their leisure time. Being situated in such a beautiful countryside is another credit to the New Sewickley. We should appreciate this pleasant environment. A Our students have always been proud of their school whether old or new, but this year they should be and are prouder than ever before. They have every educational advantage at their fingertipsg to make good use of these advantages though, depends upon the student himself. They should also have a personal pride in the beauty of the school. Added together, these factors result in the New Sewickley Area High School.
