and muscie. Rhuiand won third piace iast year in the P.S.A.L. individuals against stiff competition, and Gorian is today Captain of the N.Y.U. Fencing team. Coi- ieges have iooiced to us as a schooi which can reaiiy turn out iencers. As we trot aiong the cinders, we ieei the hreeze created hy Coach Tuttie's Niercurymen, a team which haslioeen recentiy rejuvenated after a period oi hiherna- tion due to the iacic of a director. Among this team, we find experienced teachers. Vve are iooicing to fast resuits from the team and expect to hear of Charley Dinicins and his four-minute miie fare we expecting too much from Charieyi? And of course, at every significant Seward game we 'Find the hiue and white organizers oi Sewardis unending moraie, the Cheering Squad. Gur senior ciass is represented in Seward sports hy: S. Zasiow 8-5 Baseioaii Team We icnow that we couid not outiine aii of the many stars and incidents which have heen produced during the past 4 years at Seward, hut we aii icnow who they are and what they did and we are deeply grateiui. And so seniors, carry on the great tradition of Seward, stamina, toierance, and fair piay, which have shown Seward to he the outstanding disciple of Sportsman- ship. MORRIS SCHACHTER IVIORDECAI IJAPIN .7lze .fdrififa The Arista of Seward Park High Schooi, under the capaioie ieadership of Mrs. M. Bayer, has come to mean more than a iittie Blue and White pin. Arista repre- sents the highest TMJ of the student hody in the 'iiieids of Character, Schoiarship, and Service. It is fitting that character taice an important part in the requirements for Arista, for without character, Arista itseii would have hut iittie meaning. Character pre- sents a true picture of every individuai under careful study. Scholarship is important too, for scholarship is mereiy the returned dividends on an investment of hard work. Service to the school in its many oiiices, puhiications, ciuhs, and other organiza- tions is also necessary for Arista memhers as weii as the schooi. This term the Arista carried out a program of heing student advisors to iower terrners as weii as heiping out in the iihrary and many offices of the school. Arista memhers have helped in their own way to help Seward. They will uphold its in- tegrity in the outside worid. DAVLD NOCHOMOV 17

Seward Sports- How weii we reca11 the great thri11s we feit watching our friends p1aying with the type of sportsmanship and stamina which Seward training and environment create. it warms the heart to rememioer how in our traditional Thanksgiving game, we defeated Stuyvesant 56H0 with the piays ied hy Pagano, numher 51. That was in 1945, the iast foothaii game the senior ciass had an opportunity to see. As Foothaii was part of our schooi iife, we couidnit 1et it go without a struggie. To this day, we rememher the fatetui Septemher 17, when the students of Seward caiied a striice and showed sincerity in their heiief to have more toothaii and iess schooi. Aithough foothaii had to wait untii this term, when foothaii again is heing reorganized, the memory of the team is deariy cherished, and we hope that the new team wi11 hring Seward to the tore once again. Un the diamond, Seward has produced outstanding piayers as Pennachio, who had a tryout with the New York Giants, Jameson, and Santiago, sti11 one of the Seward nine, who maintains one of the hest strikeout records Seward has had in recent years. During our stay we have seen the HEsseX QM piay some top notch games, and get second piace in the P.S.A.L. standings. it was due to the efforts of coaches Brown and Zipper, and Sewardys purchases of Booster Buttons, that the team couid show off its stuff. Stepping indoors for awhiie, we teei the spirit of those who have made Basket- 1oa11 Sewards greatest sport. Such names as Jameson, Novitsicy, Lewis and Charles are hut a few who have made the East Side, Home of Essex Tech, the hirthpiace of great hasicetioaii players. These are some who invaded the held of sports and are hringing giory to Seward. We must with a11 appreciation take off our hats to coach Henry Cohen, the heart and soui of Seward Basicethaii. We have followed the quintet to the Garden, and we know that this wi11 hecome a permanent hahit. Taking a dip into a cooi pool ot water, we 'find Coach VV'ra1dsden Aquamen. During our course in Seward, this activity reached tuii g1ory and 'continues to do so. Such Hfishn as Roesch, Niorott and Siuses have conquered the swimming pooi and carried Essex Tech to the top. in swimming as we11 as in every other major schooi sport, Seward has had more than its share ot record makers and medai coiiectors. Stepping into a mask and jacicet, we thrust into the gracetui sport of aching hones and Hashing toiis. Athietes such as Gorian, Sierra, and Rhuiand have shown fencing to he a siciiifui sport requiring speed, stamina, and co-ordination of the mind 'I6
