The year started with a bang as might be expected of a group consisting of nineteen boys and lour girls. A candy sale early in the fall in co-ordination with the Primary room enabled us to add to the playground equipment. Then along came lrlallowe'en with a spooky party. Marie Crull won the costume prize. Thanksgiving gave us a holiday but Kenneth lfickman winning fourth in drawing. l.ucille Berglund a special award and .lohn Martin honorable mention in the Registerfflazette county conf test made it even better. Kenneth lfickman managed to hold a position on the Grade Basketball Team. Our Christmas entry in the Register-Gazette contest was a success. Ralph lidward Speilman and lllhel Toms' works being exhibited at the Rockford l.ibrary. The Grammar Room entertained us in .lanuary because we had a higher perfect attendance average than they. February was a busy month because we were energetically writing our specimens for the Illinois State Penmanship Contest and for our Palmer buttons. The fourth grade formed the .lunior farm club and next year perhaps will have new and interesting things to record. The fifth and sixth grades joined the 4-H club. Witli the year drawing to a close the pupils are still on the look-out for interesting and exciting things to do. Page FI'l.lt'.'l7

When school opens in the primary room we have a very interesting time with the beginners. This year we had five. later one moved away leaving only four in the first grade. The first weeks are always hard for these little lots. for there is so much to learn and school ways are very new and confusing. Gradually. however. they forget their shyness and we are all able to work and play together. Our second grade is the largest of the three. lt boasts of fourteen members. Vwle have very exciting arithmetic races and spelling blanks fairly shine with stars. During the chicken-pox epi' demic. we did our best to cheer up the boys and girls at home, by writing letters to them, Some of the second grade art work was on display at the Rockford Library at Christmas time. The third graders are the big people in our room. They are very busy getting ready for the fourth grade with their hard subtraction and punctuation. they End less and less time for bean bag and chalk games. We couldn't get along without them, however. because who would help clean house twice a week or take care of little folks? Page Stfvleen
