Mr. Howard W. Nordahl, Principal of Sewanhakc High School. Trend Setters That which was considered a luxury yesterday is now CI necessity. The automobile, T.V., washing machine and dryer, Hi-fi, and other such appliances are some of the evidences of the fantastic industrial development in our country and each plays a part in the changing life of our society. Many of your parents lived through the depression. They had to bring this country back on its feet and they con- tributed to our present high standards of living. This was accomplished by hard work and self-discipline. A few let-hours away, young people are dedicating themselves to the task of equalling and surpassing the United States of America in its way of life. You will have the responsibility to make the most of the many educa- tional opportunities oFfered in our wonderful country. Good teachers always try to motivate their students. l believe the crying need for scientists, mathematicians, lin- guists and skilled technicians should be accepted as a challenge by the youth of America if they wish to preserve a way of life second to none. Your school has gained recognition in the educational world as ci leader. This position is due to the efforts of a far-sighted Board of Education and a faculty that has al- ways been willing to do that little something extra. lf you want to experience the satisfaction of a job well done and to play a vital role in a thrilling age, be willing to do that little something extra. Mr. Nordahl dons his chef's outfit to cook for hungry Totem Editors. Mr. Purdy and Mrs. Wille look over the day's plans. 14
