Place Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds 6 Dr. Ursula M. Stewart School Psychiatrist Mrs. Ruth Ackley ' 1 For the first time in the history of the district there are five grad- uating senior classes and there are five yearbooks. The Totem is the senior member of this team of five annuals in the district and serves as the example for others to follow. The Totem has received marked distinction over the years. lt has recorded admirably the story of educational growth in the Sewanhaka district at the secondary level. Recognition of the Totem as one of the nation's outstanding yearbooks is another way of recognizing Sewanhaka as one of the country's best high schools. Achievement doesn't come about by accident. lt is due first to the keen interest and desire of the people of the community to have a fine school system for their youth. This interest and this desire are reflected in the actions of the school board over the years in providing excellent physical facilities and leadership to develop the educational program and select the teaching staff. Achievement is due second to the educational philosophy and ad- ministrative leadership provided by Dr. A. T. Stanforth and Mr. Harold W. Wright. They have succeeded in developing an outstanding com- prehensive program and selecting an able staff of teachers to carry out this program. Third, success of a school is a reflection of fine teachers and good teaching. Fourth, success is a reflection of student effort and activities. The Totem beautfully exemplifies the effort of many students and teachers and is representative of many successful student activities. Hence, your responsibility to maintain traditions, standards and to provide leadership is great. To blend the philosophies of terminal education and college preparation into a compatible comprehensive pro- gram to meet the needs and interests of the community in critically chang- ing times is your challenge at Sewanhaka in the years ahead.
