Next year, six annuals will record district activities. This transfer has already been accomplished with the publication of five dis- trict newspapers. Charged with the responsibility of effecting the smooth transfer of publication f'know-how throughout the district is a person who has ' ' activi- become most closely identified with many phases of scholastic press ties during the past two decades. We, of the Totem Staff, therefore, are proud to override the policy of a decade and dedicate this edition to the District Director of Sc hool Publications: DR. JEROME J. NIOSI. ' 5

The five planned school buildings have been completed, equipped, and in September, T957, will be occupied with a complete student body in all grades. It has been most encouraging to observe the con- structive attitude ot students and teachers as they began the school year in partially completed build- ings and a minimum of furniture and equipment. Nevertheless, both students and faculty accepted the challenge of publishing their school newspapers and organizing student councils, clubs, and other activities. Such enthusiasm indicates that future years will reward them with knowledge and expe- rience to develop each student into a more effective citizen ot the adult community. We all can look tor- ward to i957-58 as the greatest school year in the history of Central High School District No. 2. I would like especially to congratulate the Totem Statt for its excellent work in representing the en- tire district in a pictorial and historical review of i956-57 in transition. R.
