They planned and held many in- leresling debales and lorums wilh olher schools. Their meelings which are usually held on Tues- days, are occupied by many lively debales. The club really is divided wilh argumenls lor and againsl a subiecl. 5 S slands for Sewanhalqa, Senior, Social, Sludies, Sociely. The purpose ol lhe Club is lo promole inleresl in currenl problems, domeslic and loreign, Miss Grabowslsi and Doclor Sherclc advise lhis very inleresling, dillerenl and educalional Club. S SQUARE CLUB The S Square Club was reorganized lhis year, and is under lhe guidance of Miss Bucks. Their various aclivilies 'lhis pasl year included going lo see lhe popular operella The Song ol Norway and conlribuling lo dillerenl drives held during lhe school year. They also gave an enlerlainmenl program al lhe Giles orphanage. To gel inlo lhis club one musl receive good grades and have a good personalily. Prospeclive members musl be approved by all lheir leachers. The service ol lhe club is lo check on all lhe new upperclassmen who have been lranslerred from olher schools. ASTRONOMY CLUB This year, The Asfronomy Club under fhe guiding hand of Mr. A. B. Scholl, delved info a very busy and successful year. Among Jrheir various aclivilies have been visiling local observalories, preparing and exhil:ai+ing scienlilic demonsifralrions, and srudying +he conslrellalions. Aside from This, Jrhey have also had frequenl social mee+f -ings, and are building a 'ren inch reflecling 'relescope for Sewanhalca. . 1 - i i SWING BAND Sewanhaka's music makers are rhe members of +he Swing Band, advised by Mr. John Clark. H' has become one of The mosi oufsiand- ing organizaiions in school. The club consisrs of eighl mem- ducing a qualify of music which pleases everyone. Hs purpose is To give Sewanhaka's sfudenfs some experience in playing popular dance music. Aciiviiies of 'rhe Swing Band consisi of playing in lhe gym during recreaiion periods, a+ assembly programs, school plays, oiher feaiures of The club are playing ai school dances, Siudeni Council Bazaar, baskefball games and Rally dances. The officers were: Arihur Siaudigal, President Bill Nicholson, Recording Secrefary and Jack Calabrese, Librarian. JUNIOR RED CROSS The Junior Red Cross' line purpose is 'ro help 'rhe less foriunafe people 'lhroughoul' the world and +o promo're a spirif of undersranding be+ween all na+ions. This pas? year 'rhe have made a colleclion of ioys for orphanages in Nassau Counly, collecied Ciirisimas socks for veierans ai Norihpori, and also fixed up Chrisimas boxes for children in ofher lands.
