Because The Scribes Club sponsored and carried Through The collecTion oT Toys Tor The children. The girls senT Them To The Coney Creeds CenTer aT Pipper Pass, KenTuclry, where They were forwarded To The children. The club, under The excellent ' guidance oT Mrs. Mary C. DeMaTTia has TwenTy-Tour members. They also supporTed The school's war Time acTiviTies. Their Trips inTo The ciTy were educaTional as well as social in naTure. The PresidenT oT The club is Adelaide Buningh who said The main purpose oT The club was To serve as an educaTional and social organizaTion. OTher oTTicers are: Josephine ScaTurro, Vice-President Marie Piozza, SecreTary, and Ann Johanson, Treasurer. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA This organizaTion is under The supervision and advisory head OT Mr. Furbeei while iTs presidenT is Richard WilTor, iTs vice-presidenT Boyer DeleormaTT, iTs secreTary and Treasurer is Earl Wilson and iTs sergeanT aT arms is John STeinhauser. This club sTrives To loeTTer develop leadership, cooperaTion, ciTizenship and paTrioTism. Also To promoTe a much greaTer inTeresT in agriculTure by The sTudenTs oT The agriculTure class and by all seeming inTeresTed. Too, To go on Trips-To see The many diTTerenT Things concerned wiTh agriculTure. As acTiviTies The club has sTarTed a bee colony in The l-ligh School argriculTural orchard and sponsors Trips To The NaTional PoulTry Show, BoTanical Garden, Bronx Zoo, Model Fair, and To The CounTry LiTe program aT The AgriculTural School of Farmingdale. PICA CLUB The Pica Club is made up oT sTudenTs who are inTeresTed in prinTing and wish To beTTer Them- selves aT iT. The advisors are Mr. R. Wipper and Mr. J. McPherran. BeTTy Thorvaldsen served as The presi- denT and Jimmy Walker, Marge Y -My W Lynn and STeve Romanski were vice-presidenT, secreTary and Treas- urer, respecTively. . The Pica Club publishes The Sewanhaka Handbook and is now working on The STudenT DirecTory. The members work aTTernoons in The prinTing shops and receive awards Tor saTisTacTory work. The purpose oT The Pica Club is To be OT service To The school and To improve The craTTsmanship, in The Tield oT prinTing, oT iTs members. THE PURPLE QUILL The obiecT oT The Purple Quill is To promoTe an inTeresT in creaTive wriTing and To increase TamiliariTy oT pasT and conTemporary auThors. The club parTicipaTes in STaTe and NaTiohal liTerary conTesTs as well as being The sponsor oT The Arrow supplemenT To The ChieTTain. AT Their meeTings There is muTual reading and criTicism oT wriTing done by members. During The year They wenT To see Two Broadway plays in New York CiTy. The club is open To all sTudenTs. Members are chosen aTTer a Trial period oT 6 weeks in which They musT prove Their abiIiTy.
