BASKETBALL This year's baskeTball Team had plenTy oT poTen- Tial Trom The opening day oT pracTice, buT iT was deTiniTely lacking in experience, Members Trom The varsiTy The year beTore were GilberT Varnell, Mike McCrary, Ted QuinTard, and Bud WalTers. Up Trom The J.V. Team were Jackie Munal, Mikey Long, Joe l-lickerson, Joe Bean, and Rod YaTes. New men were Joe Bruce, Ken Wagner, Ralph Bowman, and Zip Gracy. The Team showed a lo+ of husTle and dee TerminaTion as Maior Wood and Jack Moore devoTed Their coaching abiliTies To help make The season suc- cessTul. The season goT underway wiTh a win over Jasper. Lack oT experience showed up in The nexT Two games as The Tigers were edged ouT by BaxTer and Mc- Callie. Three sTraighT vicTories puT The Team on iTs TeeT again as WesTminsTer, T.M.l., and STevenson Tell beTore The Tigers. The resT of The season was win one, lose one baskeTball. SouTh PiTTsburg was deTeaTed Twice and BaxTer, STevenson, and Webb wenT down once. ST. Andrews, in The TradiTional rivalry, goT The besT oT S.M.A, Twice, once by Tive poinTs and Then by Three. The Tigers wenT down TighTing alThough They were ouT-manned. The loss To T.M.l. was a hearT-breaker.
