Little did we know what was in the fu- ture in our twelve years of school. How we loved those detained recesses brought on by our refusal to take cod liver which our teacher, Mrs. Long, decided we should have daily., The year passed very rapidly and before we knew it, we were all in the second grade. Mary wanko entered our room in the second grade, not knowing what she was in for. llrs. Bwlng, our teacher, must have really liked us as she followed us into the third grade. ' We spent most of our third year in the basement of the Presbyter- lan church, while the-construction of our new school building was being completed. Martha Bauer entered our class this year from Nor- ton Center, and we were all amused when she cried because she didn't know her arithmetic. The fourth grade seemed to be our most eventful year. Miss Greene, our teacher, was fond of music and seemed to think we should have more of that than'anythlng else. Excitement was caused when Miss Greene tied Peggy rCollette in her seat for causing too many disturbances. We all wanted to get revenge on Donnie.Allen for telling Kiss Greene we were all talking and she came and paddled all of us. The fifth and sixth years were spent with our teacher Mr. Phala- algraph. ll enjoyed his many jokes and tales of childhood days. -All the girls were thrilled when the r mantio Chuck Detwiler re- turned once again to our grade after spending three years in the city of Dcylstown. Dottie Tefs also joined our class this year. The seventh grade at last! Gee, we were scared when we had to walk in the big study hall in front of all those older kids., we were proud of our four cheer-leaders--Peg Collette, Dottie Tefs, Hary Wanko, and Barbara Rulner.. The girls kept themselves busy trying to attract the attention of our handsome home room teacher Mr. Paul. Our Jr. High years passed quickly, and before we knew it, we only had four years of school left. The Sophcmores enjoyed ln- itating us this year. They made the girls wear a skirt with a man's neck-tle and shirts backwards, no hair-pins in hair, make- up on one side of face and long cotton stockings. Although the six-man team was just getting started, with little or no experience, upwards of 300 pe ople attended the home games Seville had been lucky enough to secure a good football coach in Robert Heller, who built the team to increasing strength as the season went along Seville had had only one week of practice before our first game at Sharon and thus lost it by a score of 45-O. It was a nightmare of a football game for the Flashes, as the lack of practice showed on the brand of football we played The following game was against Lodi, and this one also played away from home, It was a rough contest all the way and at the end of the half it was Lodi 33, Seville O. But after the inter mission Seville completely outplayed them to make the final score 33-12 The next game was a sweet one for us to win, because it was against Sharon and gave us some revenge for our earlier loss to them. In this one, played here on our field back of the school house, we won on a last minute touchdown by Charles Detwiler on an intercepted pass. he caught in on their 15 yard line and went all the way to score standing up. It was his second touchdown of the game and made the final score 12-6. We lost the last game against Lodi by a score of S2-28, after a good fight, to end our initial football season. The boys who played on Seville's first football team were Dave, Huffman, Art Clevidence, Bob Bistor, Jack Baker, Duke Harold, and Bob Beck on the line. They were very proud to have wg two of their classmates, Patsy Mong, and Carol Black chosen for - , Junior High cheerleaders. Good work girls! Mr. Heller, our coach, - ' is also seventh grade home room- teacher. s My next destination while on my little journey to the grades was I the eighth grade, who have Mr. Scott for their home room teacher. . This class is one of the largest groups upstairs, with an enrollment of thirty pupils. W: were happy to have June Short elected to be N ,le one of our Junior High cheerleaders, also an all-county second ' 8 team cheerleader. . ,455 Six boys from our room are on the Junior High Basketball team I W 0 I- Q 4' 3 -:ge J I , ,- t e . . We are very proud of our boys that played on the basketball team this year. One member of our class played on- the football team, which was organized earl- ,-,s ier in the season. We were very glad to have one of our classmates, . ' 0 Norma Detwiler, chosen as cheerleader again this year, this being 3 her second year to ifill that position. In December we sold pencils with the basket ball schedule on them. ' 1. My last stop on my journey upstairs was to visit the Junior Class. . Once again the Juniors were given the privilege of selling pop and Qf NS weiners at the football and basketball games. We also sold them at two dances we had during the first semester. ' We are proud to have in our room, Marilyn Koppes, holder of ,, two all-county cheerleading medals. 5' School opened with a nice surprise for our class when we learn- ' ed that our class rings were here. They had been ordered last year. Our sweaters also arrived after a few weeks of school. These were ui ' S due to arrive last year but had been delayed. ps As I come to the end of my visit, I recall my happy school days I ss when we had so much fun together.
