l L L - 1967-68 VARSITY WRESTLING TEAM. FRONT ROW: Manager Carl George, Dave Sims, Gordon Laque, John Eby, Don Patterson, Wayne Brown, and Steve Porter. REAR ROW: Manager Bob Kirkland, Larry Harris, Doug Campbell, Mark Larsen, Bill Fish, Wade Thomas, Bruce Ford, and Manager Tom Hollywood. NOT PRESENT FOR PICTURE: Cliff Watkins and Joe Abruzzo. For the most part this was a disillusioning season for the Severna Park High School wrestlers. Early season losses to Brooklyn Park and Glen I Burnie made Severna Park's chances of winning the Anne Arundel County Championships look dim indeed. Two new coaches greeted the prospective team members at the tirst practice. Physical Education teacher Lowell Moore took over as head coach, giving up his job as baseball coach to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Mr. Keedy. Barry Lauver, a chemistry teacher, assumed the duties of assistant coach. The Falcons opened their season with a smashing 43-8 victory over Arundel. Harold Laque 1953, Wayne Brown 11273, Joe Abruzzo 11333, Cliff Watkins 11383, and Wade Thomas 11803 scored pins to highlight the win. John Eby 1123, Doug Campbell 11453, and Bruce Ford 1Unlimited3 were also victorious in their matches. Brooklyn Park dumped the Falcons rather decisively, 36-15. Only Dave Sims 1953, John Eby 11123, and Wade Thomas 11803 managed pins in this match. Against Glen Burnie Sims scored the only pin, his second straight, but the Falcons went down 28414. Harold Laque 11033, Doug Campbell 11453, and Bill Fish 11653 won decisions. The Falcons pulled off an upset victory over Southern in a match at Southern. Only Mark Larsen 11543 pinned his opponent, but victories on decisions went to Dave Sims 1953, Puggy Patterson 11203, Wayne Brown 11273, Bill Fish 11653, Wade Thomas 11803, and Bruce Ford 1Unlimited3. Final Score: 23-17. Patterson was the only Falcon to pin his adversary in the match with John Carrol, but Sims 1953, Laque 11033, Fish 11653, and Ford 1Unlimited3 won decisions. John Carrol won the match, 29-16 off of their strength in the middle weight classes.
