l 1967-68 VARSITY INDOOR TRACK TEAM. FRONT ROW: Jim Gugliotti, Ed Purpura, Jack Schwartz, Mike Allen,Bill Helms, John Fredrick, Eugene Kor- zeneiwski. MIDDLE ROW: Richard Sun, Dave Goughenour, John Ranes, Bob Baugh, Bill Hennessey, Steve Munger, Charlie Hagelgans, Gerald Maxson. REAR ROW: Larry Caudell, Gene Munger, Jim Slack, Dave Newkirk, Lee Cadorette, Bill McKay, Jim Patton, Carl Rasmussen, Coach Preston. The Indoor Track Team enjoyed the best season in its three-year his- tory. Coach William Preston built a team that could run with any team in the state, but a lack of depth kept the team from winning all ofits dual meets. The Falcons faced a tough schedule comprised of individual meets with the best teams in Baltimore County. Severna Park also entered the National Guard Games on February 10 and the Maryland Indoor Track Championships on March 2. The teams strong areas were in the running events, but Dave Goughenour piled up many first places in the Shot Put. Larry Caudell handled the High Jumping and hurdling chores for the Falcons. Sprinters accounted for many of the teamis point with Steve Munger, Carl Rasmus- sen, Dave Newkirk, Richard Robinson, and Bill Helms scoring most of them. The Falcons fielded the best team of distance runners in the state and completely dominated the events from the 600 Yard Run through the Two Mile Run in all of its dual meets. Bob Baugh, Gene Munger, and John Ranes scored well in the 600 Yard Run and the 1000 Yard Run, while Richard Sun, Bill McKay, Lee Cadorette, and Bill Hennessey carried the Blue and Gold to first in all of the meets. The three relay teams 1880 Yards, One Mile and Two Milej did not fare well in the early meets, but they turned in great performances at the two big meets that ended the season, the National Guard Games and the State Championships. The people who were on the teams shifted con- tinuously during the season until Coach Preston found the right combina- tion late in the going. Although the team will lose Seniors Bill McKay, Dave Newkirk, Lee Cadorette, and Richard Robinson to graduation, the future is bright for next year as many good underclassmen will be returning including Steve Munger, Gene Munger, Carl Rasmussen, Jim Gugliotti, and Eugene Korzeneiwski.
