M-1 T 12 'Q-in Ur 1967-68 VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM. FRONT ROW: Dan Wise, Pete Munholland, Mark Bieberich, George Sauble, Jeff Davies, Mark Durst and Dave Simison. REAR ROW: Coach Young, Tim King, Warner Johnson, Don Rossi, Joe Emrich, and Bob Conklin. NOT PRESENT FOR PICTURE: Wayne Dunham Elroy Johnson, and Gary Glatzel. The 1967-68 basketball season was something of a disappointment. Only a handful of players returned from last year's varsity squad, and Ronald Young replaced Mr. Fragle as head coach. The team did not win very often, but they proved that a team that loses is not neccessarily a team of losers. Everywhere the Falcons went, they impressed the crowds with their unquenchable spirit and tight. Whether they were battling for the lead or twenty points behind, the boys who wore the Blue 84 Gold played the best brand of basketball they knew. Since Coach Young played his underclassmen extensively, prospects are good for a much improved team next year. Juniors Joe Emrich, Bob Conklin, Pete Munholland, and Elroy Johnson will all contribute to the team's strength next year. Also Sophomores Warner Johnson, Wayne Dunham and Freshman Gary Glatzel will be key team members soon. Senior Mark Durst was one of the best players in the county this sea- son, and on many occassions he sparked the team with his tine play. Seniors Tim King, Mark Bieberick, George Saubel, and Jeff Davies also played well. The Falcons seemed to have a standard script for all of their games. They would manage, through fine play and dogged persistance, to lead for the first quarter and well into the second, but then the other team would catch fire and pull away. Highpoints of the season included a smashing defeat of neighboring Severn School, and the tirst game with Annapolis, one of the powers in Anne Arundel County basketball this season. Against the Panthers, the Falcons battled their way to within striking range of the Annapolis crew after three quarters of play, but then a key player fouled out, and the challenge evaporated.
