The Falcons' track team completed a tremendous season this year by winning the county meet and placing second in the District Championships. The Districts designated the high water mark in Severna Park outdoor track history, as the Falcons rolled up 109 points, compared with last yea.r's 65 and 34 the year before. This season also marked the second time in three years that the Falcons have copped the county crown. Last year, the trackmen finished second to Annapolis by a mere half point. Although the 5-3 record is not overly impressive, these achievements culminated an outstanding dual meet season, it must be realized that the losses were at the hand-s of Dulaney Qstate indoor championl, Bel Air fstate outdoor champj, and Annapolis Qdefeated earlier by the Falcons in a triangular meet, and later beaten in the County and the Districtsl. Otherwise, the spikers trounced all opposition, and new school records were set in the 220, mile, two mile, 880 relay, mile relay, and the broad jump. In the state meet, the Falcons scored ten points with stellar performances from Richard Sun, Bill Baugh, and the mile relay of Gene Foehl, Richard Robinson, Dave Newkirk, and Baugh accounting for the places. Coaches Andrew Borland and William Preston did an excellent job in guiding the team through moods ranging from despair fDu1aneyj to over- confidence Qpost-Edgewoodj for the triumphs. This was the first year that the new asphalt track came into use, and the first time the county meet was held at Severna Park.
