SECO D I CIIUNTY Before the opening game of the season, journalists, coaches, and local sportsmen, again, labeled the Severna Park Falcons as d e fin i t e t h r e at s to the Anne Arundel County Football Championship. The Falcons commanded this threat with the possession of a stunning offense and solid defense. Offensively, the team was led by quarterback Bill Emrich, who piloted the Falcons to the 1965 Championship. The reassurring running of full- backs Russ Roberts and Steve Roberts, along with the pass receiving of jay Glatzel and Don Fava, attributed to the six Falcon victories. Defensively, the squad was led by the pre- ceptive guarding of Dave Reppard, and under the watchful eyes of Dick Vosbury, jim Shillinglaw, and Kirk Young. As the season advanced, spectators witnessed a 6-2-2 record.Victims of the Falcons included the Andover Archers, the Glen Burnie Gophers, the Howard County Lions, the St. Mary's Saints, the Arundel Wildcats, and the Atholton Raid- ers. In upset victories, Southern and Northeast were able to hand defeats to the Falcons. As the season began with a tie with Brooklyn Park, 13-13, so too, it ended with a tie against the Annapolis Panthers, who had already won the Champion- ship by winning five straight county league games. to capture a perfect season of six county wins, the met the F alc o ns in the a nnu al Turkey Bowl classic. Falcons went into the game as the underdog, but come highly outstanding. Severna controlled the entire game handed Annapolis a tie-the only team the Champion failed to beat.
