St. Paul with practically the same team for the past two years showed rear power. Two extra periods were played and in the last minute of thc second extra period St. Paul scored' but were offside and the goal did not count. cxtra period St. Paul scored' but were offside 'ind the goal did not count. Gilman was defeated in the next game on an exceptionally muddy field. Although hindered by the mud for the First two quarters Severn came back with an offensive that overwhelmed Gilman and netted the Maroon 'ind Wliire four goals. St. Paul returned ro Severna Park determined to beat Severn but Sevcrn outplayed them for the entire game and they had to be content with '1 0-0 score. Full of exultation with the record made in the past ,Baines our team met McDono5h in a return ,came played on our field and managed to win by a score of 1-0 in a double extra period game. The score indicates little 'is we outplayed them from every angle but lacked the power to make a tally. With many players down with the Hu a revamped team met Gilman and won by a score 2-0. Our team did not play as well as they might have since 6 they had already won the championship for the second consecutive year. The first game was played with the veteran Calvert Hall aggregation and Severn lost 4-0. Nothing can be said about this game except that Severn fought against a fast and clever team, which should have won, and did. The next two games before Christmas leave saw Severn lose. The first of these two was lost to Forest Park by the score of 2-1, and the next to Poly by 3-0. On January 14, Severn went to Baltimore and played City College on a muddy field. Severn was very optimistic before this game, but City scored live goals to Severn's none and turned the team into a group of boys hungry for victory. The next Wednesday, Mt. St. joe came to Severn and was defeated 2-1. The soccer team now looked like an organization with ability and determination to win. The best performance was turned in at the next game played, when Gilman came to Severn. For three quarters neither team scored a goal, but the triumvirate of Captain Wolfenden, Dougherty, and Zimmer- man found their stride and when the Gilman boys left they took the short end of a 5-0 score. The season wound up with the strong Tome team beating Severn 1-0 in a closely contested battle. Either team should have won, but Tome got a good break which they took advantage of, scoring the winning goal. Teel, Crosley, Samuels Due to early publication of the Severn ANCHOR 8: WHEEI., we are unable to give a full account of the 1951 Lacrosse team. However, we can give a few short accounts of what has happened up to the time the book goes to press. After a few practice games, the team shaped into form and opened the regular schedule with a decisive victory over Vifoodbrook school by beating them fourteen to nothing. Next we came up against a formidable foe in City College of Baltimore. City has always been a tough nut for the Severn stickmen to crack and this year the story was the same. The team came through, however, winning the game three to two. This was the second league game that we had won, so naturally the team was in the frame of mind to win the rest of the games thereby gaining the championship. The following game was with the Swarthmore College junior Varsity. Severn beat them eight to nothing. This was a non-league game. After this game the school was let out for a twelve day spring vaca- tion. They came back and had just one week to get in shape for one of the toughest games of the year with the Navy Plebes. And tough it was. The ball was up and down the field all the time. There was no one-sided playing whatsoever. Severn came through again, though, with a six to four victory. X W?
