All in all the season was closed in a most satisfactory and emphatic manner. We had a great team a fighting team' a band of boys who deserve to be called Champions of Maryland. Reed Cutter and Schumann were selected on the All Maryland scholastic team. This was indeed a capping climax to so successful a football season. ann!!! MHJJMYMMIJIIJIJYIIJMIIYIIMAYIIJIMIIJIMMIJJ FOREST PARK Forest Park our next opponent proved to be yust the needed breather to whet up our appetite for Poly on the following week end Billy Struven and Eric Reed enjoyed field days Over two teams saw services in this contest and altho the score was 20 0 it might easily have been 50 0 had the Severn boys so desired POLY And now the big game with Poly the contest the boys had pointed towards all season Hobans men were fast shifty tricky and not as light as some people were wont to believe altho Severn did outweigh them slightly The game proved to be the classic prep school battle of the year Poly drew first blood when Pasarew the engineers right guard broke through and blocked Cutters punt The try at goal was blocked Severn immediately re ceived and displaying the iight that only gentlemen can claim they punched out a touchdown on sheer power Ghormley place kicked a perfect goal putting Severn ahead 7 6 as the half ended To open the third quarter Severn got possession of the ball and with Slade Cutter carrying the brunt of the attack the boys were able to drive into enemy territory At this point Cutter fumbled but good reliable Dickey Pratt was playing his usual heads up game of football and he took the ball on the run for Severn s second mark Ghorm ley again calmly place kicked goal. Poly immediately opened with a series of effective forward passes and finally their second touchdown due in most part to some great work on the part of Captain Boots Ives and Billy McLean. Soon after this the Severna Park residents experienced a chill when the Poly aerial attack again began to function. However we soon gained possession of the ball and we appeared touchdown bound as the final gun went off It was a great game and it is generally agreed that the better team won. As for the individual high lights of the game it would be a crime besides being impossible to single out any particular stars from either team. The score at the end of the game: Severn 14 Poly 12. McDoNoo1-1 McDonogh was our next guest and they proved to be a tough nut to crack. The Severn boys were in the throes of a let-down following the Poly game, otherwise the contest would not have been close. As it happened, we entered the fourth quarter trailing 7-6. We then settled down and punched out an- other touchdown for a 12-7 win. The team learned a valuable lesson this day. ST. JOE We traveled next to Gibbons Field where our friendly and worthy foe, St. joe, was met. In this game' the Severn boys were at their greatest f Page 511 S U i ss 5 Qi 29 57' o fl Q 5 S 'fs S' s S 2 X1 E ax! lgpnmnnhwwhldzl Ahmmnwmzdizgggg' . ' l S? , w sn S L A 5 . - y yy . '. The team won seven, tied one, and lost two, those two being at the termination of the season, andone of them a non-league game with an A squad team. Indeed it was a raw team that trotted onto the field at Carroll Park when Severn played its first game against Southern High School. Both teams were rather inexperienced but put up a good fight. In the early part of the game Severn scored a touchdown after marching nearly the whole length of the held. Shortly after the beginning of the second half Southern blocked a punt and scored a safety. stride and scored two goals with their extra points in rapid succession.
