R. May, stood in the road directing the operation. Up ahead, the trucks which had successfully moved through the bottleneck ran into new trouble. Another enemy roadblock cut loose at a hairpin curve in the highway a half-mile beyond the blownout bridge. A pair of ma- chine guns and enemy riflemen were set up with a com- manding sweep of the road. The enemy gunfire was deadly. Faith wrapped a blanket around his shoulders and walked up and down the truck column, giving orders and organizing a group to assault the enemy. Each time he passed his own jeep which was parked in the center line of the column he leaped up on the vehicle and fired a burst from the .50 calibre machine gun mounted on it. Heavy enemy Hre soon began from the opposite side of the road near the reservoir. Faith finally directed one group to attack the roadblock on the right flank and then leading a group, attacked straight into the block.
