,mi A member of the 17th RCT fires his .30 harassing fire, which had been pretty consistent through- out the day, continued to pepper the battalion perimeter during the first few hours of darkness. It was four hours, however, before the enemy group charged down on the vulnerable areas east of the road. Campbell first knew of this new attack when he heard shouting from the squad ahead of him. A moment later he saw figures rushing down the knoll through the darkness. The lieutenant counted five men and caliber carbine at enemy he has iust spotted. poured a volley into the sixth.
