Three other battalions drove in a Westerly direction toward the eastern shore of the Chosin Reservoir. The axis of advance stretched from Iwon to Hyesanjin and east to the reservoir. On November 21, the Buffalo Regiment battered its way into Hyesanjin. Lieutenant Mineo Inuzuka, of Portland, Ore., then a non-com, recalled the day very clearly. It was cold, he said, very, very cold. But we knew the Manchurian border was only a few miles away. The men kept pushing ahead and fighting bit- terly to make the border.
