For the old timers of the 7th- the men who had done battle in the Pacific during World War II, fighting their Way through some of its most rugged campaigns-it was a new experienceg an intro- duction to a new kind of Warfare characterized by gong-ringing, bugle-blaring, screaming, fanatical at- tackers. Thanksgiving Dinner on The banks of the Yalu River, Korea. quarters was to backiire and turn instead into tragedy, heartbreak, disaster .... During our Hrst two months of this undeclared War in Korea, we of the 7th Division had played a sig- nificant role in the sweeping UN operation. The bloody peninsula was no alien land to the Bayonet. On Sept. 8, 1945, the 17th Infantry Regiment flater named the Buffalo Regiment after Colonel William Quinn who was affectionately known as Buffalo Bill J led the other Cp Russell Grail manning clippers-Pfc. Joseph Tono, the customer. Sefiing up defense positions on the front lines. units of the Division ashore at Inchon to take over the occupation of Korea. Three years later in 1948 the 7th Division had moved to Japan. Thus the September 17, 1950, landing at Inchon was a homecoming for many of the veteran division members. But this time the arrival at Inchon was different. There were no banners to greet us, no grateful citizens waving us ashore. This time the 7th came in LST's and landing barges and poured ashore in battle gear.
