returned and we began what was to be a bitter series of battles over hill positions in this important area. Some of the most savage fighting of the war was to follow, despite the fact that peace talks by now were underway. The Division, upon taking over the Iron Triangle sector, immediately initiated and maintained vigor- ous patrol action along the rocky area. During the month of May combat activity consisted of small-scale patrol actions, with Division groups penetrating deep into enemy territory seeking prisoners and observing enemy activities. Daylight reconnaissance patrols were also conducted Where the craggy terrain permitted.
