Gloria Taite, flight nurse, checks patient as brought aboard plane for transfer to hospital. he is On 1 January, 1951, we began to move again, still Weary from the Chosin battle. This time the 7th was assigned to the eastern central mountain front in the Chechon-Tanyang-Chungju area. The 17th Regiment had the gruelling task of patrolling and blocking posi- tions in the vicinity of Chechon. The 31st Was in the Yonju-Punggi sector, later moving to Tanyang, and the 32nd was in the Yangyang area. This was no easy job since the units daily patrolled extensively in this moun- tainous and razorlike ridge country where roads were non-existent. Here, the main job was to dislodge and Wipe out the remaining elements of the 2nd and 10th North Korean Divisions. To cope with this ticklish job, battalion-size attacks were employed and Within three Weeks the Division had eliminated the last of the enemy pockets of resistance. Meanwhile, UN forces bolstered and headed back into battle in an attempt to drive back north and establish ground Where the Reds had success- fully gained control in their counter-move the month before.
