Coming from Cincinnati to Altoona in 1870, then to Greensburg in 1882, the foundress of the Seton Hill Sisters of Charity brought to the new community a spirit of sacri- fice, of kindness and humility, and a strength as lasting as Pennsyl- vania's hills. The at-home-ness we love at Seton Hill reflects the warmth of Mother Aloysia. To departing students she was reassuring . . . Seton Hill is your home, come even if you d0n't get an invitation. The hall contains more than sev- enty private rooms. The dining room, of Lombard Gothic archi- tecture, is attached to Lowe Hall and has a capacity of five hundred. Over the fireplace, a tablet lettered in Old English, pays tribute to Mother Aloysia. Liturgical symbols, painted in 1950 by Sister Mary Francis, assisted by art students, adorn the beams of the ceiling. 28

Canevin Hall, a second residence hall for students, was opened in 1924. The building was named for Archbishop Regis Canevin, who, as Bishop of Pittsburgh when the col- lege charter was granted in 1918, gave unfailing encourage- ment to the Sisters of Charity. Both residence halls, Canevin and Lowe, provide facilities which make leisure time more enjoyable. Adjacent to the fourth floor of Lowe Hall is the smoker. This beehive of activity is the assembly room for chatter, laughs about the empty coke machine, bridge played on blond. coffee tables, big sister-little sister hello's and class songs. Our rooms, too, are a place for friendly conversations at recreation time. In Canevin Lounge, Seton Hill's non-resident students claim their own social center. Couches, chairs, card tables, and a piano provide background for relaxation, while paint- ings and cheerful draperies complete the decor of this friendly room. Canvein Parlors provide a gracious setting for enter- taining guests, for the annual Red Cross Christmas party, and for special club activities. , -ffryiizc Come and join ur, invite Ruth Clouse, Agnesmary Treanor, and Ollie Meggison.
