Each day as the girls came and went, they glanced across the campus or out the windows to make at least a mental note of the day's progress on the construction. They witnessed two million dollars in labor and materials expended to give them the very best in educational oppor- tunities under the direction of the Sisters of Charity. Seton Memories for 1956 is a record of Seton life during construction year. Some classrooms pic- tured on these pages will never echo another year of excited freshman or senior voices, for the memory-filled chapel building will be razed as soon as the new structure is ready for occupancy. This book lies in the hands of its reader by no feat of magic. It holds the patient and persevering efforts of twelve Seton girls who spent extra hours after school measuring and cutting pictures, pasting panels, collecting information and writing copy. They offer this book as a tribute and final memoir of one glorious sunset in Seton education. C o n t e n t s Administration . . Francis Franer MISS MARIE MEYER is Seton office secre- tary. Besides keeping reams of records and answering telephone calls, she is loyal and helpful in all the problems that 24 faculty members and 700 girls can create in a year. Rev. Francis Franer is spiritual director at Seton and teaches senior religion classes. He meets with freshman homerooms once a week, one sophomore and a junior class com- plete his schedule. Father is assistant at St. Lawrence Church where he taught Latin School before his appointment to Seton in 1951. Rev. Francis Buddelmeier, new faculty member in 1955, is religion instructor for four sophomore and four junior classes. Father formerly taught at Elder High School for fourteen years, Where Latin, math, and history classes were also on his schedule. Father is pastor of Presentation Church in English Woods. Rev. Leonard Foley, O.F.M., conducted a two-day retreat for freshmen and sopho- mores, November 1-2g for juniors and seniors, November 3-4. At the beginning of the second semester, the seniors in homeroom sections attended a closed retreat at Reparatrix Con- vent in Clifton. 6 ww, , W EW H I ., ' Ai, .K A-VM-..--1. Just a few yards away from the pouring of concrete were 700 girls like Mary Lou Holthaus, Kathy Bischoff, Nancy Rickert and Elaine Banzhaf, busy with building the mind and character of an ideal Seton girl. Following their student vocation, they aimed to fulfill the plans of the Divine Architect by studying the blueprint of Christ's life, the foundation stone of their Catholic education. As Seton has risen brick by brick under the guidance of engineers, so the Holy Spirit directs every detail of their school life to form full Christian characters. -Q bfi I S 2 gf x , 4 fn. , , 1 ,,f-f f'fx4 .A . - If vw., , 4 .. In early November the social studies teachers with 200 freshmen attended a City Council meeting. Annette Frondorf and Karen Kirby entered an essay contest honoring John Marshall, and Karen Won third prize in Cincinnati. On ordinary days everyone goes to class to tackle the day's lessons like Agnes Jansen and Barbara Bachman in bookkeeping. Finally, when darkness casts mysterious shadows on the campus, Setonians return for dances and fun-the sophomore-senior masquerade on Hallowe'en is traditional. Along With Class Go Prizes, Fun .. On Christmas Eve, 19 poor families were showered with baskets stuffed with turkey dinners, gift packages and clothing. Not all charity was kept at home.
