Four years ago we entered Seton Hall, somewhat disillusioned, but eager to learn. Now we are better able to know and to understand this world of change in which we live. We are more able to accept, to show gratitude, and hopefully to contribute toward world progress and understanding. We are modern individ- uals — products of a University dedicated to helping each of us reach the fullness of life. As citizens of this ever-changing world, we must move with the times. We must be able to chart the variability in the things around us and to weigh their significance. A World ' s Fair, an Ecumenical Council, and our University — these are all products of basic change in our world. And it is from these areas — a changing world, a changing Church and a changing university — that a new reality springs. A reality of youth pre- pared to accept change as well as to hold fast to that which is good. DEDICATION The winds of change are blowing in the Church; updating of Catholicism is progressing rapidly. The Church is not only modernizing, but also is helping to bring together those of different faiths through combined efforts toward greater inter-faith understanding. During the past four years of intellec- tual and social growth, we have been afforded the opportunity of strengthen- ing our emotional and intellectual fibers. We have learned to understand and to accept much more; and in this way we have developed a faith which ex- presses our humanity. Let us never fear to rededicate this faith, for in this lies our — and humanity ' s — iasting hope. I THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY The Most Reverend Thomas A. Boland, S.T.D., LL.D. As the body depends upon the heart for its existence, so is the University greatly dependent upon His Excellency. Archbishop Boland ' s deep influence and concern pervades the entire University community and is communicated to us through his activities as educator, admin- istrator, and Spiritual Shepherd. The Administration o T he Most Reverend John J. Dougherty, an embodiment of the true Ecumenical Man, is a dynamic example of the world toward which the University directs its students. Th is world is evinced by the many awards recognizing Bishop Dougherty ' s contribu- tions to the new spirit of Brotherhood, understanding and co-operation. Academically, the program of special events pro- vides guest lecturers of local and national prom- inence who offer theories, concepts and criticisms of scholarly interest. The Annual Retreat and Days of Recollection are, in themselves, instructive and reflective, and supplement each student ' s spiritual needs. It is perhaps in the social aspect of college life that a contributory program of special events is most appreciated; here, it is the student who has projected himself beyond the disciplines of class- room theory and into the realm of personal involvement. The University recognizes that intercollegiate competition is an integral part of its athletic activ- ities, and that the total program is an essential component of the educational experience it provides for its students in developing the complete human personality. The University is a member of the Eastern Col- legiate Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Varsity schedules are maintained in basketball, baseball, cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, swimming, soccer, tennis, golf, fencing, wrestling, and squash racquets. For those who lack the natural ability or the time to devote to varsity athletics, a well-rounded pro- gram of intramural activities is maintained, with competition carried on between fraternities, dormi- tories, and other groups of students. This year, inter- collegiate touch football made its appearance at the University with the innovat ion of an All-Star game between Seton Hall and arch-rival St. Peter’s College.
