A WORLD ANEW, TO THIS WE WERE DEDICATED WHEN WE WERE BORN. IN THIS WE MUST BE FULFILLED IF WE WILL EVER COMPLETELY BE. ALTHOUGH EVERY ERA FEELS IN AN ELEMENT OF HUMAN PRIDE THAT IT IS ITSELF THE DAWN OF A NEW LIFE, WE MUST PROVE THAT WE ARE THIS DAWN, LEST ALL BEGIN TO BEAR THE UNENDING NIGHT. To seek. To find. . . . and not to yield. The eternal quest goes on. The Sciences may elude us. The Arts may elude us. But still the quest continues. Still the quest for knowledge. Still the quest for perfection. Un- daunted in his search, the University Man finds nothing that is unsearchable. Guided by Truth, he finds Truth his conquest. MERITY, A.M., Ed.D., LL.D. Secretary Right Reverend Monsignor JOHN J. DOUGHERTY, S.T.L, S.S.D. T reasurer ARCHBISHOP THOMAS A. BOLAND Archbishop Boland is a Seton Hall graduate with duties and ac- complishments that would make men fearful of his labor and envi- ous of the fruits. He could be likened to the wind: the effects of which are monumental and which can be felt over a large area, but seldom, if ever, observed. 7 MONSIGNOR JOHN J. DOUGHERTY Monsignor Dougherty has been referred to as the “hub of every wheel of activity at Seton Hall” which, in fact, he is. As President, he is one of the most popular in the history of Seton Hall; full of the vitality and earnestness that he graduated from the Hall with in 1930. What is more, the rela- tion of a man such as our Presi- dent with Seton Hall is much like relating parts of a wheel to the wheel as a whole. Monsignor Dougherty has been a part of Seton Hall for many years, not only in his career as a student, but in his professional capacity at the Darlington Seminary, and now as President of the University. We will always know him as the man who follows his own ideal — the living progress of the “Seton Hall family.” UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS REV. EDWARD J. This, ideally, is the goal of the Literary Club. In its weekly discussions and through its publication of the Seton Review, it attempts to achieve this ideal. That this greatness of expression be at- tained demands that this club possess ma- terial of greatness. And outstanding literary material can come only from an atmosphere which fosters literary creativity and from men who utilize this atmosphere. Seton Hall has the ability to supply both the atmosphere and the men. And the Liter- ary Club has the capacity for expressing their productivity. 214 KNIGHTS OF S ETON I A Our Chapel of the Immaculate Concep- tion is frequented each Thursday and Fri- day morning of the academic year by the Knights of Setonia. This organization, founded in 1937, is dedicated to instilling in the student a sincere and devout love of Christ through the spiritual bond of Holy Communion. Seton Hall, a Catholic Uni- versity, provides its students with the means of receiving religious instruction. The Knights of Setonia, an honored organiza- tion, provides its members a means of effecting their religion. S ETONIAN FILM I The intellectual ferment of a university depends in part on the vitality of an aesthetic appreciation. If an aesthetic sense is lacking, intellection becomes sluggish. That this may not become the case at Seton Hall is due largely to the activities of the Setonian Film Society. In selecting films of great photographic and controversial merit, it possesses the ability to produce such an intellectual ferment. In maintaining its ambitious program of outstand- ing film production, it can foster a decided aes- thetic appreciation of the photographic art. The aims of the Scholarship Club are both idealistic and practical. Idealistic, because they see in their endeavors the opportunity to give in a true and Christian spirit. Practical, because they raise the money for the scholarship in a convenient way. The Monsignor John L. McNulty Scholarship is now a reality, but the Scholarship Club has not ended its quest. This year Father Davis and the members of the Club “seek to establish the first Monsignor John J. Dougherty Scholarship. That all this may be done on both the national and local level, the National Federation of Catholic Col- lege Students has continued to carry on its program of activities and services for more than twenty-two years. One of the primary aims of the club is the develop- ment of an understanding of accounting techniques and terminology among its mem- bers. This is accomplished through the films which are shown and the professional tours which are taken. The organization also invites not- able men of the accounting profession to informally ad- dress its members. i 248 MARKETING CLUB □ Exit: arguing, bargaining, conniving, and counter-tac- tics. The crowded market- place of old, with its ques- tionable “talk faster than thou” attitude has yielded to solid principles and sound methods. Enter: the modern, business — efficient proced- ures of marketing. Since its founding in Oc- tober of 1953, the Economics Club has concentrated on the various aspects of this vital field. The object of the club is to provide its mem- bers with an understanding of practical business world application of classroom theory. 249 ECONOMICS CLUB i) The United States system of Finance, the economic backbone of this country, is examined with exacting scrutiny under the lens of the Finance Club. To fulfill its goal of fostering study and research in this field, the club invites guest lecturers who explain both the theoretical and practical aspects of finance. 250 FINANCE ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS CLUB there are men in this america who see beyond their country who see the parts the whole of the world there are men in this america who hope to help other men other minds to see beyond 251 252 r « A Z , «fc ' V: ' - %: - S=P ► • . -Wm «. “ ■ - ■ ' -.... ■ «• % s ■■ %4si - “ w S im ?3£ + L there are men in this America who know what freedom is and are not afraid to speak it — freedom is a prize daily won wrested from the universe that includes the right to fight for freedom — 254 255 o Camaraderie, “esprit de corps,” pa- triotic comradeship. MILITARY BALL COMMITTEE 258 THE VARSITY CLUB the knights of the tournament court receiving their blue favors are admitted to the round table warriors all, becoming stronger in companionship The Booster Club, revised and re- vitalized, became one of the most active groups on campus this year. Supplying discount tickets to the stu- dents and organizing bus transporta- tion to away games were consistent functions of the club. It is often true that the success of the team depends on the support of the student body. The Booster Club guaranteed the support. 261 The skimmer -topped collegiates who lend their personal “Go Pirates” to the cheers at SHU’s basketball games are the real “rah! rah!” spirit of the school. 262 263 264 c H 265 “ The field of sports is a field of honor RT.
