The social studies course competently fosters this appreciation. Through the course in World History, the student learns of the successes and failures of civilizations throughout the ages. It also endeavors to acquaint each stu- dent with the processes of clear thinking and reasoning. All students are required to study algebra for two years, plane geometry for one, and trigonometry for a half year. Electives are also available for those students whose careers demand them. 17
