THE CHILD MUST BE seen whole and entire He must be seen as a citizen of two worlds He belongs to this world surely but his first and highest allegiance IS to the Kingdom of flod From his earliest years he must be taught that his chief significance comes from the fact that he lS created by God and IS destined for a life with God in eternlty Catholic education w1ll cause the student to dlscover a higher life than this daily one and a brighter world than that he sees Secondly it will give him a continuing purpose in life for it will teach hlm that be was made to know love and serve God in this world as the condition for merltlng eternal happiness Thlrdly it will induce ln him a deep sense of responsibility for those rights and obligations he possesses by reason of his citizenship 1n Heaven as well as on Earth Finally rellglous training will challenge him to sanctify whatever walk of life he chooses and to seek and accept the will of Cod ln whatever way lt may be manifested The aim of Seton Hall Preparatory School is to impart a good Catholic education to young men in the critical years of their lives t train the moral intellectual and physical being The eternal destiny of the boy and his future participation as a worthy citizen of the nation are the essence of h1s education The mere imparting of knowledge IS looked upon as but a small part of the work of Lhrlstxan education The training of the heart and the formation of character under the guiding lnfluence of Christian principles the fostering of the Splrlt of true Americanlsm the development of the intellectual faculties the encouragement and guidance of laudable ambition the acquisition of habits of logl-cal thought correct methods of study self-discipline and refinements the reallzatlon in a word of the highest ideals of excellence ln the cultured Christian gentlemen - these are the ends that Seton Hall keeps steadily in vlew in the arduous and sacred office of educating youth The responsibilltles which we have hereby assumed are both grave and continuing They deserve conscientious consideration Catholic education imparts that spiritual direction which prepares us to fulfill our future moral responslbllties to God and to our fellow men Thus as a principle of integration religion will help the child to develop a sense of God a sense of direction a sense of responszbifity and a sense of mission ln this life The Child: Citizen of TWO Worlds
