I V has been through man s long history a time of reyorcmg and so it 1S un ,,1., ,555 til now. A harvest of new medical doctors far surpasses in value the reaping of the fruits of earth and is therefore Worthy of greater and deeper joy. Before all harvesting goes the time of planting and Watering, the dig- nified labor of man. Your time of labor has been arduous. Medical education today makes great demands upon the student, demands upon his intellectual en- ergies, his courage, his stamina. The diploma is a symbol of work crowned with success, marking the growth of the student to that measure of competency Where- by he can begin the practice of medicine under professional guidance. As Presi- dent ofthe University I desire to rejoice with you and to congratulate you. We are proud of your achievement, and we bless you as you go into the service of man- kind in a noble profession. May you bring honor to your profession and glory to your Alma Mater. gs RADUATION DAY may aptly be compared to harvest time. Harvest time L a ' 5 .,,,,, ., . . . + IOHN 1. lames E. McCormack, M. D., Sc.D., Dean Seton Hall College of Medicine '-,il 4 T rs ALWAYS a pleasure to offer congratulations to a graduating class, but :QE I feel that the Class of 1963 at Seton Hall College of Medicine merits special commendation. ' lA'A ' Your class, more than any other, has had to condition itself to dis- turbances and distractions of considerable magnitude. There have been frequent world crises and local problems have been constantly with usl Decisions both large and small affecting our personal and professional lives have constantly in- truded upon your student days. Added to these external situations has been no small amount of internal turb- ulence, the by-product of the maturation process Seton Hall College of Medicine is experiencing, and which all new academic institutions undergo. You graduates have benefited from this maturing, just as I am sure you have contributed to it. With every distraction you have overcome, with every crisis in your personal life that you have surmounted en route to your professional degree, you have advanced your own maturity. The faculty and I have every confidence that you are well prepared to cope with the problems that will inevitably arise as you pursue your careers as physicians. JAMES E. MCCORMACK
