UR EDUCATION does not end here. Only the foundation has been dug and the groundwork laid. The structure itself is still a frame of things to come. At times we despair at the paucity of facts at our fingertips, the courage to act on impulse, and above all, the thought that on June 8, 1963 we will be handed a degree, given a noble title, and bodily kicked from the protected role of the student into the cold world of reality. Suddenly, we realize that we are expected to produce in the manner of a respected and educated man, and more often than not-on our own decision. It is impossible to prophesy on our eventual fate, or to say with certainty that our background is complete and can withstand the blows that come from the unknown. Our four short years have seen some settling at Seton Hall. At times we were not sure if the proper combatant emerged the hero, or if we would benefit or lose by the decision. At other times we were certain of our feelings. As seniors, things did not seem so exciting, so colorful, so moving. Is it we who have settled, or has a new medical school worn off some of its new- ness? Will we look back confidently at a well organized plan or despair at a faulty construction? Certainly these questions will be answered as we are examined by our next and greatest teacher-experience. The history of medicine is long and illustrious. Many men have made concrete advances in life's daily battles with death and disease. Gthers have added philosophical reflections to our library of literature that say what the less articulate can only feel. Such a passage from the Prayer of Maimonides can, perhaps, convey best the thoughts of the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-three as they stand on the threshold of their professional lives. May there never rise in me the notion that I know enough, but give me the strength and leisure and zeal to enlarge my knowledge. Our work is great, and the mind of man presses forward forever. Thou hast chosen me in Thy grace, to watch over the life and death of Thy creatures. I am about to fulfill my duties. Guide me in the immense work so that it may be of avail.
