I was baptized Seton, forever to associate me with the noble foundress of the American parochial school system and the white winged Sisters, her daughters and my name's perpetuator. I lovingly obey Christ's command, WTeach the Gospel to all people.n Christ was born in a stable. I was born in a carri- age-house. My birth was lowly, but how holy was my dedi- cation, for Christ is my cornerstone Whom I have not re- jected. My past was humble -- but how proud my presentg how glorious my future! As Saint Joseph stood beside the manger and watched God's little Son grow in age and in grace, so men of vis- ion like Bishop Walter A. Foery and Monsignor Alexis Hopkins kept vigil as I grew. I am the product of their strong determination and their stronger faith. My small two-room frame became within three years a masterful piece of architecture -- impressive, modern, beautiful, wrapped in panes of cerulean blue -- the color of Mary's own mantle. Now, as I expand materially, my children profit by intellectual and spiritual increase. They number 212. I am their mother as truly as God is their Father. NI HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED GUARDIANN Before Seton Catholic High School came to be, from the beginning, I was established guardian. The first vague imaginings of a Catholic high school in Endicott were inspired by meg the development of the idea and its fruition were guided by me. Uhen a patron and model for this new facet of Catholic education in America was sought, I gave my beloved daughter, the courageous Mother Setong when the architectural plans were drawn up, I was pres- ent, when, block by block,the building was erected, I was there. When, with wisdom, the intellectual edifice was formed, when the supernatu- ral school was shaped, I watched, and by my prayers secured from my Son the blessings of Almighty God. Four years have elapsed since Seton's inception: four years of planning and building, of labor, of prayer, of study, told in these pages. Here is the story of the esteemed bishop and monsignor, the valiant priests and sisters, of the generous lay men and women, and most of all, of the eager, happy boys and girls who, each in his own way, under my guardianship, has contributed to the construction of the material, intellectual and spiritual Seton Catholic High School.
