No time capsule would be complete without a collection of students' opinions on what has been popular in the past year. So EMBERS '79 staff took a survey questioning the popu- larity of television shows, books, etc. The results are both predictable and unique. What Is Your Favorite Book? 1. The Thorn Birds 2. DON'T wear clogs. They present safety hazards and add to student competi- tion. The argyle socks are not permit- ted. Stay with a solid color found in the uniform skirt. Dos 8z Don 'ts ARE YOU CONFUSED ABOUT UNIFORMS? Some of Seton's well-read students understand glamour in fashion, but unfortunately fash- ion in uniforms is not allowed. With all the uniform standards there are, coordinating an acceptable ensemble can be tricky. Here are a few guide- lines to follow. DON'T try to get away with a sweater such as this. The design on the sweater is definitely out! Only solid sweaters of the appropriate color are allowed. DO try for a complete uniform. This unaltered skirt smartly coordinates with the solid sweater. The white tai- lored blouse and knee socks make for a terrific classroom effect. Sweater vests are a great look in fash- ion, but DON'T include these in your uniform. Stick to conventional V-neck pullovers and Cardigans. Q, Qquer' . : N -v--K' if asf -.-.- ,192 tg., A.-uf rv' -A Af-A N' ' fi k . -' -- -p 395' ff. f- , , 5 f L' s. f, -ai vs . rf' ' . They provide us with the kindness, the warnings, and all of the watching that is necessary for us to grow into educated young ladies. The North Central Evaluation proved to be the challenge of the year, which the administration and faculty bravely faced. The North Central is one of six regional accrediting associations. Since 1972, when Seton obtained membership, the school has been under obligation to be exam- ined every seven years. This examination consists of three phases: a self evaluation, evaluation by outside organizations, and the follow up report. All of the information gathered by our hard working faculty, administration, and guest observ- ers culminated in the final report which finishes more than a year of hard work. But North Central evaluation was not the only area of interest for administration. The day-to-day working of the school in this '78-'79 academic year demanded their constant attention, as any of this team of three can tell you. Much time, too, was devoted to planning for Seton's future. The world is a stage, the stage is a world . . . of enter- tainment! In this world of ours we have many stagesg on Broadway, and even under the great circus tents. Seton, at times, can seem like a circus, since we have some of the greatest shows on earth performed in our exquisite Lit- tle Theater! The talented Cenesians that form the Drama Club come in all shapes and sizes. This vari- ety is quite necessary in per- forming such professional plays as this year's Children's Theater production of Little Red and Her Friends. Next came the One-Act Play Festi- val, Traveling Christmas Show, and the annual All-School Play. Once again, the Drama Club had a successful season of enjoyable entertainment. The All-School liturgy, UNICEF pro- ject, Blood Drive. Tree Trim, Mardi Gras, Spirit as Week, Teacher's appreciation day, and the Car- mel-Seton dance are some of the projects and activities they sponsored this year. They also helped students prove to themselves as well as schools in the area how much spirit we have by entering into the WMET school spirit contest. Seton ranked fourth place out of all the schools entered and received a video-tape system plus a Disco hosted by WMET personalities. The Stu- dent Council and the student body have worked hand in hand this year to prove how much spirit really does exist in our school. Silence fell upon the courts. Sud- denly a ball drifted upward and a player hungrily sliced at it, then another. The spectators' necks stiff- ened as they watched the ball fly back and forth . . . back and forth Although not all of the matches became quite so dramatic, in victory and defeat the newly uniformed ten- nis team always strove for more. Each year we grow in skill and enthusiasm and this year was no exception. Byron R. White once said, Sports constantly make demands on the participant for top performance and they develop integrity, self-reliance, and initiative. g This has certainly been true in the case of all our teams. Success is weighed not in digits and statistics, but in the spirit that is alive in each of our ath- letes. We will never live these moments again, but what we have learned will live on as a legacy to future Satellites. The Class of '82 We were led throughout freshman year by many different people whom we will remember as those who helped us to get our start. Our teachers led us through many hours of home- work. We learned about x's and y's, frogs and Rom- eo's. They also taught us many things for which we never received a grade. For instance, we learned it is no longer possible to do our homework in front of the television. I-Iomeroom teachers led us out on the streets to sell our candy in hopes of winning the fund drive. fMaybe next year when we're olderj Most of all we were led by our big sisters. Down Sesame Street and through those first few confusing weeks of halls and stairways. For this we will always be grateful. As this was our year to be led around. it was also our year for learning, making new friends. experi- encing, discovering and dreaming of the good times to come. Kelly Rambatt caught moonlighting in art. Darlene Bethea demonstrates her ability for proofs Two down and two to go as 1979 completes our sec- ond year at Seton. We returned to the realization that we were no longer the low man on the totem pole. We bravely and courageously struggled through our sophomore year Cthat year most people term as easiest, but we know betterj! We made our speeches tour favorite was the eulogyj, and we wrote compositions fsome of which were quite risquel. We conquered those isosceles triangles and tri- umphed over the pythagorean theorum. After we got geometry under our belts we went on to bigger and bet- ter things. - Of course we never really felt like sophomores until we took Driver's Ed and taught the instructors how to drive while showing them who really had the right-of- way. We had all the usual problems at the high-point of the year. Sophomore date-dance. They included: finding chaperones, decorations. bands. and most of all, dates. Only we sophomores know how difficult it was to pick one man out ofa crowd. all clamoring forour favors. So even now as we look back and see the good times and not-so-good times. we realize that if we stick together as a class. we can make our remaining years as memorable as our first two. The cheers were loud then. but, our silence brought us the title of BEST during the bus drill. Our true colors shone when the Berkley line chose us to model their latest fall creation. tAt least our rings would reflect our individual tastes.l This was obviously OUR season. for we made a fortune selling fall flowers. This success was due to our trademark. the little man posters.scattered about the classrooms. Speaking often about the joys of an average Washington trip. the Seniors helped us imagine it. lt probably would have been more fun to experience it firsthand. Well. at least we'll go down in history as participants in new tradition. Singing Hallelujah Chorus was a true honor. tToo bad they didn't ask about that on the Constitution test.l As important upperclassmen. we danced amid December Dreams, found a date for prom. and were finally allowed unmoderated studies. Peaceful that is until the cla-ss of '79 came along. Whatever did happen to the class of 79?. . . The bicentennial saw us entering as freshmen. America probably aged another 200 years after that. It wqs a year of cliques. Clique?! What's a cli- que? Of dirt first fund drive land our first lossj. It was the year of the Freshman Tea Party where a notoriou few tore down posters and set toilet paper afi e. We had our very own big sisters to bunny h down the halls with. It was a year that passed q ickly- ' , We fo nd ourselves as sophomores. We also found ou selves trying to get a date for date dance. The nighl was More Than a Feeling', but less than that' for all of us who ended up taking our friend's oo short brother. We made up for it though en we danced with the most handsome man in e world, dad, at the Father-Daughter dance. Charles Manson and Sharon Tate made an appearance on star day. Squirt guns were the craze.- Teachers lookingfor bright minds found only wet ones. This was our year to win the fund drive. We lost. All our frustrations were taken to the bathrooms. It was a good place to blow off smoke . We couldn't wait to be upperclassmen - Soon enough, we became upperclassmen. jun- iors. That didn't help much in the fund drive. Last '- again. We did win the tricycle race though. We .. .shone with pride and our finggrshsllone with gold as we learned that All Tbi'norrows,Begiri -Today'-'. if S V , 1 . The judges at our Gong Show weren't hard to spot -they were the ones cored with whip cream. Our Burden of'Love was understood every day at lunch by Mel Tillis. It was forgotten at Christmas dance, and prom where we were lust the Way We Are . Iunior retreat was spiritually livened by dancing in the cafeteria. We were the last to learn about the hot dog in Mr. Putz's religion classes. And Washington?! lt's better to leave well enough alone and look towards a new year - The new year brought us two Popes. And we were seniors. Animal I-louse fit our style per- fectly as togas roamed the halls and food fights were planned. lt was our turn to be big sisters,., lead the bunny hop and buildthe lasting friend- FJ ship with our little sisters. The last Christmas ffl dance stayed forever as December Dreams . And t prom lingered as more than just- snot-her dance. Yes, we lost the fund drive for the fourth time. But cheers of No more fund drive! rang from all our mouths. We helped place the school fourth in the WMET spirit contest. You are responsible young T ladies bombarded us from everywhere.'Yet we didn't think of that when one tiny bee got loose in .. a choral room of 75 girls. And how did that ham- burger bun get stuck on the cafeteriailing? I ' X New ideas and imagination were the sources of power gener- Qg f ated by the staff. The result: a yearbook both unpredictable and M creative. The work is finally complete, even though phenomenal tasks were taken to achieve such a marvelous publication. These tasks ranged from collecting beach equipment while trudging through the snow, to developing imaginative stories out of thin air in an effort to improve the quality of the Seton Scene. Good Luck Iunior Cubs, for a whole year of journalism awaits I you! Sister Benedicta portrays The Flying Nun . E fN fdffgqq 0' f UN OR 31,15 The staff at another snow job: Top row: Tammy Brne. When the time comes to say thank-you to everyone who helped put together this yearbook, it becomes difficult to pinpoint all the things that each person contributed. The staff worked together like clockwork - helping each other with layouts and building on each others' ideas. It seemed that once the wheels started turning, we never could unwind . And so, a big thank-you to every staff member: Bridget Boland . . .Tammy Brne. . . Also, to the administration and faculty for their cooperation throughout the production of Embers '79. The students deserve commendation for their willingness to have their pictures taken -for what would this yearbook be without them! And finally, many thanks to Sister Beneicta, without whose help our timepiece would have never started ticking.
