Hob Aschenbrcnner turns upheld against Bishop Antal. Although not the most successful season in Servile football history, this year's team still strived to play the brand of football Servile is known for. The season was highlighted by the first pre-league game against Santa Barbara, and the Mater Dei game at La Palma Park which saw Servile, down 28 to 7 with four minutes to go, come back and score two touchdowns and almost a third to nearly win the game. Co-captains for the year were seniors Steve Fate, Tom Matella and Jim Miller. Voted the most valuable player for the season was Steve Fate. Fate was starting quarterback and safety. Me was chosen all-league, all-city and all-county. Jim Miller was the recipient of the George M. Dena Perpetual Trophy Award. Also receiving all-league honors were senior Guy Wilson and junior Ken Haynes. Senior Hob Aschenbrenner was also chosen to the all-city team. 52 Although more noted tor his running ability, Ken Haynes was also a good receiver.
