The passing corn- end Jeff DeLapp sparked Servite to number The Friars next blitzed Pomona Catholic's Spart£rik»v were ignited by touchdown runs by Wes Morgan, Compton next supplied fuel to Servite s victory fi Tarbabes 27-13. Wes Morgan and Greg Mitchell Lasuen next attempted to stop the rampaging Fria vanquished the Padres 21-0. With this victory, the league season with a record of 4-0 and ranked secoj C.I.F. I 3. The explosive Friars Hilsabeck, and John Carmean . the Friars ripped the elusive led the way. Fermln but to no avail, as Servite iars concluded their pre- n die county and tenth in Servite opened its league play with h thrilling 7-6 triumph over St. Paiil. A touch- down pass by Greg Mitchell to halfback Jerry Hilsabeck and Lou Cappola’s extra point proved enough to subdue the Swordsmen. Servite then shot down Verbum Dei's Eagles 28-12. j This victory set up a showdown with the C.I.F.'s number one rated Matei Dei Monarchs. A capacity crowd of 10, 000 people jammed Santa Ana Bowl as the two un- defeated prep grid titans collided. The hard fighting Friars dropped a heartbreaking 9-7 decision to the Monarchs. Servite led the contest 7-3 midway through the fourth quarter on Wes Morgan’s touchdown run, but relinquished the lead on a touchdown pass following a crucial fumble. Servite gallantly rebounded from the setback as the Friars demolished Cantwell 49-26 and St. John Bosco 40 12. With these two victories Servite ended its regular season with an overall record of 8 wins and I loss. This earned them a berth in the C.I.F. playoffs against the powerful Centennial Apaches. Against Centennial. Servite:was forced out of the playoffs, as the speedy Apache backs ran for five touchdowns in the second half and turned a Servite 21-7 cushion into a 4 1-21 loss. The Friars completed an excellent season with an overall record of S wins and 2 losses. Servite's Junior Varsity finished a fine season with a 6-2-J slate, and the scrappy Cees were 1-8 on the season.
