The lVIini-Qadist system required two station- ary transmitting sites. Stationary meant on the beach and in Viet Nam on the beach meant C-rations, mud, rain, no shaves or showers, and VC. The ET's from LOPAC drew the short straws for this duty. For security and company they often had South Vietnamese or South Korean troops. lf they were lucky, the beach camp security forces were US Marines, who spoke Eng- lish and drank Budwieser like good com- pany should. The Viet Cong company wasn't so welcome. One hapless ET spent a night under a Marine Amtrack during a VC attack of 150-200 motar rounds. The SERRANUS own ET's pulled some of this shore duty also. Whenever our beachcamps came up on the radio, we could count on hearing: Send gedunks, send mail, send beer, send Ann lVlargret. They certainly were glad to get hack to the ship for some of our cooks' find food, and a hot shave and shower.
