What a difference a year makes! The mighty 1980 Serra Eagle football squad burst onto the W.P.l.A.L. scene as the Class A Southern Conference powerhouse. Led by their mentor, Coach Dick Bowen, the Eagles abounded with a historical nine- win no-loss season. The Eagle defense muscled their opponents to a minimal thirty-four points on the season, along with a whopping total of five shu- tours. The offensive unit, showcased by the prominent Serra line, displayed a unique aptitude to put points on the scoreboard. The Eagles were so influential in this aspect that they tallied two hundred and eighty- seven points for the year. Almost the whole team was given an op- portunity to basl-z in the limelight, for the Eagles were honored to have All-Confer- ence players on this year's crew. - lt may be noted, also, that the Eagles could not enter post-season play because of the restrictions placed on them by the W,P.l,A.L. two years ago. And, as the saying goes, How 'Bout them Eagles , the 1979 conference battle put the Eagles to the top,
