The boys team, stricken from the list of varsity sports in 1972, returned this year under the direction of Mr. Joseph Anderko, Director of Guidance. The girls team was coached by Mrs. Wes Gardener, the girls' physi- cal education instructor. Both teams practiced on the hills of Haler Heights, and on the course set up in Renzie Park. Despite the poor records of both teams, their hard work, time, and effort enhanced the fall sports program at Serra. rgst if my .JM f--,N N .Q -H O O Ll. 'Q A li 6. It meant scoring forty-nine points against Frazier. lt mea nt beating arch-rival, Boyle, 14-8 on the Lancer's home field. Football meant win- ning, but unfortunately it also meant losing. It meant heartbreaking defeats at the hands of Mapletown and Avella. It was also offense and defense, with each player at his own position. lt was being in the right place at the right time and also in the wrong place at the wrong time. lt meant catching praise and hell from the coach. lt meant the final 3-7 record and post-season awards. Finally it meant the experience of another year and the hope that next year would be better. ifmiww A www .4- Homecoming Qi W K . ix 4' gig M M. M fiigmm ff my WW W Q mg? At the beginning of the day, a Mass was held for the the school community, under the direction of the Religion Committee. During the liturgy, offerings of food for the needy were presented at the altar. At the conclusion of the Mass, a student forum was held. It was organized by the S.S.G., in an attempt to inform the student body as to the workings of the Student Govern- ment. An actual meeting took place on stage, and the floor was opened for questions. The final activity of the day was a pep rally. The cheer- leaders, mothers of the basketball players, and Coach Moneck and his wife took part. All present were wished a Happy Thanksgiving. ix! The cheerleaders began their practice sessions in late August, pre- paring for the upcoming sports seasons. Many long hours of work were put into the perfor- mance of their cheers. Throughout football season, and basketball as well, the cheerleaders took the field, lend- ing su pport to the players, and demonstrating Serra's pride in its teams. 35 5 36 I . MN . -- . However, the classrooms, the cafeteria, and the library help achieve Serra's prupose-a well-rounded personal education. ape-' 39 Christmas December 20, 1974, was the last day Serra was in session before school was recessed for the Christ- mas holidays. On this day, school began at the usual 8:30 with a homeroom period. Christmas Mass was then celebrated in the gymnasium, followed by class parties. Refreshments were served at the parties as students either danced or simply listened to the music. A second homeroom was held at the end of the day, with school being dismissed at 12:30 for the final time until January 6,1975. 3 V--A f AVZ' ., 1, .
