Sentinel Self-Service The studio art course for fourth year students occupies Mr. Aaron Schenck's attention as he looks at one of his student's projects. Department head Schenck also teaches basic art and history of art, and is chairman of Open House. Mr. James Tibbs, Sentinel music director and co-director of the Centennial Band, prepares his marching band for the Silver Spartan Day parade. Mr. Odell Lash and Mr. Richard Gilfillan inspect some of the heating equipment of the school. Custodians, Cooks Sweeping the halls, which are cleaned between every period, keeps Joseph Kiehn busy. Mr. Gilbert Anders works the shift from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 every day. The 11 people who keep the building clean and heated, and the three cooks, complete a school staff of about 80 at Sentinel. The custodians are in the building 24 hours a day while the cooks come early in the morning to begin the day’s lunch. This year, the cooks must prepare enough food for two lunch periods and then stay during the afternoon until the kitchen is clean. One of Mr. Lew Stimson's jobs is mowing the lawns during the summer and spring months. Below left, Mr. Charles Herron drives the bus between schools five times daily. Below right, Mr. J. R. Seitz checks the sliding doors in the main hall.
