From the time the mathematics department was organized in 1917, it has grown from one teacher to a staff of eight today. As MHS has progressed to the 50 year mark, more courses have been added until now intermediate and advanced algebra, and plane and solid geometry are offered, in addition to the usual math program. Trigonometry and algebra are college level courses. The geometry students decorate the school windows with geometric designs at Christmas. Miss Gertrude Clark heads this department. Intermediate algebra students study simultaneous equations.

During the four years of required English, students of Missoula County High School become acquainted with great literature. They are introduced to the world's outstanding authors and poets, and also learn the fundamentals of grammar. Corrine Hossack John Linn Agnes Scott 13 Greta Seibel The English staff has grown from two teachers in 1906 to the present group of sixteen. This department is headed by Miss Hazel Swearingen.

(phyAical, Snows, The physical science department offers such courses as general science, chemistry, biology and physics. The equipment which is in present use is certainly more effective than that used in the early 1900's when the department was organized. The chemistry smells are eliminated by a fan, but nothing can be done to eliminate the age-old trick of putting frog legs down girls' necks. Millard Peterson heads this department.
