National Honor Society composed of 40 seniors and six probational juniors recommended by fellow students and selected by the faculty .... members must be in upper third of class and most outstanding in scholarship, character, leadership, and service .... Missoula's chapter among oldest in nation . . . . established in 1921 ... . guided by Miss Edna Mann, head of history department .... met at Florence Hotel May 5 for annual banquet .... probational members this year included George Simmons, Ralph Lovberg, Bill Jesse, Jimmy Thompson, Marjorie Powell, Marion Headley .... elected to office for the ensuing year are Harold Herbig, president; Pat Mur-phey, vice-president; and Miss Edna Jacobson, secretary-treasurer. ★ Student Council is made up of an elected representative from each home room in school .... led by President Harold Herbig, senior; vice-President Dale Gillespie, senior; Secretary Tannisse Brown, junior; and Treasurer Lester C. Ennis, faculty member .... sponsored by G. A. Ketcham, principal .... serves as the legislative branch for the school .... passes judgment on important matters which have a bearing on school life before sending them to the student body and faculty members .... confirms new club constitutions .... this year revised its own constitution to provide for a student court, a budget committee, and the awarding of letters for superiority in a number of new activities including art, acting, and music. ★ Classes Senior Class under the sponsorship of Miss Gertrude Clark .... elected Bruce Toole, president; Bill Curran, vice-president; Dorothy Polleys, secretary-treasurer, after hearing traditional campaign speeches at class meeting .... presented annual senior mixer as first all-school dance of the year .... conformed to wartime conditions with a winter quarter hop minus decorations .... dispensed with the formality of the usual senior class present to the school as a national defense measure .... had bought MHS pins with '42 guards as customary .... presented farewell assembly .... were guests of juniors at the annual Junior Prom in May. As the first class in 26 years to graduate into a world at war, 1942's class of seniors looks hopefully toward college, but reminisces fondly over such events as drives to secure a new annex, the Helena special, the crowds of spectators who watch the hilarity of a Thespian initiation, or the general unrest of a Friday afternoon in spring. ★ Junior Class selected Dick McEwen, president; Virginia Woods, vice-president; Anna Jo Kelley, secretary-treasurer .... organized under Mrs. Florence M. Keeton .... worked hard to present successful Prom as climax to school year . . . . gave traditional dances .... Barn Dance in November .... Christmas Party .... Spring Dance in April .... cooperated with dramatics department to present Ever Since Eve . . . . wears class sweaters of maroon and white . . . . is ful of initiative .... one of the highest classes scholastically .... plans to look back with condescension upon all underclassmen in final year of high school. ★ Sophomore Class organized under Mrs. Arminda McDonald, sponsor .... elected Helen Gillespie, president; Bob Bennett, vice-president; Adele Bruce, secretary-treasurer .... began a successful year with the Frosh-Soph May Day Dance this dance helps to teach youngsters more about dancing and social life in general . . . . gave a Farewell Matinee Dance the last Friday seniors were at school .... class officers were assisted by home room presidents of both semesters .... looks ahead with eagerness to active junior year. ★ Freshman Class is sponsored by H. P. Budewitz, history instructor .... elected following class officers: Don Herbig, president; Bob Farnsworth, vice-president; and Shirley Lintz, secretary .... presented Victory Dance for the sophomores in February .... has been active in many high school activities .... backbone of future MHS student bodies. 18
