The Class of ’33 to M. H. S. To M. H. S. a toast we raise And dedicate this lay; We saw you like a phoenix rise From out your ashes gray. As freshmen meek and fearful, we Entered your opened doors; We launched our bark and set our sails For Wisdom’s sunny shores. Those gay and carefree sophomore days We cannot soon forget, When we for other freshmen green A proud example set. As juniors, we our building saw Destroyed by ruthless fire; Gazing helpless, saw it fall A prey to Vulcan’s ire. We carried on with saddened hearts, Determined to be strong, And not to let our courage die Although the way seemed long. And then, one day, our dreams came true More beautiful it rose, And old Missoula High once more Her pristine beauty shows. And so to you this toast we raise. For you we sing this lay. You, who like a phoenix rose From out your ashes grey. A. KETCHAM You of tin! Class of 1933 have been told so often by so many people that, you are going to find facing you the necessity of creating a new world that you are perhaps in danger of acquiring the idea that nothing that was true in your parents’ world will be true in yours. I believe I can make no better use of the space so kindly allotted to me in your Year Book, than to say that you could make no greater error. No matter what you may do with political and social forms of organization, you will find that reverence and honesty, decency, kindness, generosity and courtesy, in short the whole list of funda- mental human virtues are still fundamental, and that no sort of economic planning or of social-political organization will make a livable world without them. It is the disregard of just these simple things that has brought the present ruin. We shall watch with great interest as you rebuild. Yours very sincerely, G. A. KETCHAM, Principal. 8 T II 1 I'.
