1 1 I 14.4 'V g. R ALMA MAT WHATEVER YOU DO, LET IT BE DONE WELL 4 YE-ARBOOK DEDICATION UR principal, Mr. Richard A. Reagan, has iaithiully and competently served the students oi Seneca tor the past seven years. To him, the retiring head oi our iaculty, we wish gratefully to dedicate this edition oi the Chieftain. During our tour years oi study here at Seneca, we have noticed his profound interest in the well-being of each student. He also has devoted considerable attention to the success and improvement oi our school and has constantly striven to modernize our teaching facilities so that all oi the sc ool's resources can be utilized by each student. He has been a staunch believer in marks and attendance, but his interests have not been solely conilned to the classroom. He has also been a loyal supporter oi all our athletic teams, and he seldom misses a game or any other athletic event. It was his constant spirit that served as an inspiration to the students oi Seneca, and thus, their morale was oiten boosted by his courage. Thus, it is with deep pride that we dedicate this year's edition oi the Chieftain to our very popular principal, Mr. Richard A. Reagan. Although this is but a small token oi acknowledgement in return for his manly iavors and sacrifices, we, the Class oi '50, wish him to know that we greatly appreciate all that hebhas Hoge to make our high school days such a pleasant memory. Congratulations, Mr. Reagan, for a yo we one 2 MR. ENGEL HIS is Mr . Laverne H. Engel's fourth ' the an year at Seneca. After guiding - nexes or two years Mr. Engel is now assist- ing at the main building. His position here is that of assistant principal. ln all these years he has never shown himself to be anything but the kind, good-humored, considerate man he reaw is. r. Engel's deep enthusiasm in both the school and the students in it, is daily reflected by his constant activities. He has confirmed this by his diligent attendance at football games and by the arrangement of countless pep assem- blies to support e team and encourage the sale of tickets for the night games. . Constant student attendance and superior scholastic achievement are Mr. Engel's fondest hopes. He is iust as proud of Seneca when it leads in attendance as when one of our teams comes off the field with a smashing victory. Mr. Engel is friend to both the faculty and the student body. He has won a place in the hearts of all of us and we hope the association between Mr. Engel and Seneca will last for many years to come. 3 MR. WARNHOFF HE name of Mr. David Warnhoff has become slynonymous with Seneca. He has tirelessly devote 35 years of his life to the betterment of our educational institution. Mr. Warnhoff was appointed to the original faculty as electrical instructor at Peckham Voca- tional School. ln 1915 he transferred to Seneca. Beginning his duties as an instructor he was later appointe head of the shop department. ln 1935 Mr. Warnhoff assumed his position of administra- tive assistant to Dr. Elmer S. Pierce and now is assistant to Mr. Reagan. Mr. Warnhoff's 12. years in industry as an electrical wireman, armature winder, and rail- road signal electrician, have provided him with an ample background to solve the many problems that students encounter in their shops and classes To the unstinted and energetic efforts of Mr. Warnhoff we are eternally indebted. We are in- deed fortunate to have with us this man who so cheerfully performs his many duties and still finds time to participate actively in the affairs of the student body. Before we pass ca aduates filed into the school sters UR books are closed and o and prepare to take our positions in a trou look back and remember our carefree high school years at Sene . On a bright June day in 1946 an impressive group of grammar school gr to have interviews and to take the entrance exams. Who would dream that that group of young was wg? We have grown in stature and knowledge in these four years. And how swiftly they have passe . and bewildered, we reported for classes in September, 1946. Because of swelling enroll- iled to annexes. There, in social equality, we learned the fundamentals of and could tell any of those stuffy teachers w. Alas, the dawn --- we building. Awed ment, most of us were ex our trades. Then came the step up. We were sophomores now, more about electricity, machinery, and photography than they ever kne were mercilessly trampled on by upper classmen and bewildered by the strange main Soon we became acclimated and began to enjoy our first taste of high school l' e. Our iunior year was an in-between year. Not under dogs, we still were not in the limelight. Remember the assembly when Seneca celebrated the winning of the Yale Cup? We began to look for- ward to graduation, we elected officers and tried to raise funds. We were seniors at last. Our elation was quenched by the realization that we were children no more. With adult realism we planned our futures. Now we smile and reminisce. Remember report card day? The skating parties? The cafeteria rush? Ninth period? The assemblies? The friends we made? Most of all we remember our teachers. Of course we grumbled and criticized, but now we realize what a wonderful person each and every one was. And now we part, probably never to meet again. But we shall always be together in memory. Let e a silent, Th2Ilk5, Seneca, for all you have done. usp ause and breath 8 , , 7 SENHQIRS 9 Adams, Granville A. Balasht, Ronald J. Barnhard, Arthur L. H. S. Alumni Dance As I gaze over the milling throng of socialites, I see many familiar faces. The music this evening is furnished by Peter Hasenpusch and his all-star orches- tra, Tom Kelly, and Joe Giglia. The floor show is provided by Fred Csont, star of the Riffel Creampuff Corporation Show. Look over there! It's Carl Cookie Falter. I hear he has a monopoly on the Cookie industry. His icebox cookies have chilled the world. Well! There's Bill Crowley, now head football coach at Vassar College. After ten years as All-American, and five years in pro-ball, he's settled down to make some money. We congratulate Ron Franke who has just graduated from State Teachers College. Under the capable instruction of Arthur Fray, Ron received his third degree. From Don Sullivan we learn that .T oe Jagodzinski has just been signed by the Har- lem Globe Trotters. There in a chartreuse and pink tuxedo with a lavender tie is Rocco DiPietro es- corted by his valet, Angelo llauria. And it's Robert Briggs on his first date with millionaire heiress, Bambi Glocken- spiel. Ken Meylers told me that last evening a concert was given at Nicholopoulos Hall gornrerly einhan'sJ by I oe Nazon. He played our favorite selection, Old Black oe. ' John J. Sturm, the famous private detective, informs us that Ron Balash and Karl Bergman have just taken over the Sun Valley Ski Resort. They have just received six tons of bandages, courtesy of Red Cross. We miss Gerard Shields and Rodney Kick who are fighting for the Featherweight championship tonight. , Eight-star General Charles -A. Schuh just announced to the crowd that he appoint- ad' Disk Krombach and Jack Nikischer five-star generals in the New York National ar . All eyes are now on Bernie Frantz and his wife as they glide across the floor in a samba. Now Bill Casanova Horn fidol of the Bobby-sockersj waltzes across the floor with Bob Zimpfer, who has just cut-in. The crowd moves aside as ferocious Ralph Doster slips across the dance floor with that seven foot siren, Torchy Firetruck. The music stops and Neil Finnegan steps to the platform to deliver his 25th inaug- ural address as Senior Class President. He thanks his campaign managers Dan Bu- boltz and John Szpila. The eminent cartoonist Paul Wangler has just finished his child's portrait, appro- priately entitled Son-of-a-Gun. . . Pr This has been a gala affair and we thank incipal Sam Matteliano for his help in preparing this affair. l . +4 KR., X 29 To play the Accordion like SENIOR AMBITION GERARD SHIELDS . . . . . Therefore, it is fitting that a large part of the time in youth should be spent in athletic programs. Although we may forget an historical proof or an algebraic derivation, we can never forget the games we have won, the prizes we have taken, and the heroes we have cheered. An enjoyable pastime tochy, athletics prepare us to participate in the game of life tomorrow - building an intellect capable of meeting the challenge of that game. 50 L I MR. C. LESLIE BOEHMER. In the All-Vocational meet we had the first five men across the line, but lost on points. They are Aaron Page,'the record -holder of the high jump, Ed Bauerlein, a 220 mang Bob Wilson, our quarter mllerg Bill Crowley, a hurdlerg and Art Varnado and Ray Simoncelli, two sprtnters.
