Work Outside Of School 3,5 fx for Q 2 Q The Work Programs Depart- ment at Seneca Valley consists of the Cooperative Work Experi- ence- CWE, the Work Oriented Curriculum-WOC, and the Coop- erative Office Education-COE. The goal of the programs is the development of both specific and general skills which facilitate up- grading on the job. Students de- velop understanding of the structure of business with empha- sis on the employee's role as part of this structure. The Cooperative Work Experi- ence is a program of instruction designed to prepare students for entry into all basic fields of em- ployment not covered by other specifically designated coopera- tive education programs. The Work Oriented Curriculum is a four year cooperative voca- tional education program for stu- dents who have potential ability as self sufficient wage earners. The program attempts to meet such students' needs by combining the teaching of basic skills with on the job experiences. The Cooperative Office Educa- tion provides business education students a program of occupa- tional instruction in business edu- cation subjects, occupational information, and job related skills. A cooperative arrangement be- tween the schools and businesses of the community provides train- ing stations which enable the stu- dent to acquire work experience and training with experienced personnel. There is more to social studies than memorizing names, dates, and other facts. It deals with peo- ple and the things that made them who they were. It tells about im- portant happenings in our history that helped shape America and our policies as well as the rest of the world and it gives us the causes and results of these events. Social studies provides us with an opportunity to study about other people in different parts of the world and all the problems they face. lt gives us a chance to see how lucky we are to live in the United States and shows us how much we take for granted. An- other thing that we take for grant- ed is the terrific social studies de- partment we have here at Seneca. They put alot of time and effort to make the classes interesting and fun and they do a great job of it. 1.
