The Work Oriented Curriculum is a four year cooperative voca- tional education program for stu- dents who have potential ability as self sufficient wage earners. The program attempts to meet such students' needs by combining the teaching of basic skills with on the job experiences. The Cooperative Office Educa- tion provides business education students a program of occupa- tional instruction in business edu- cation subjects, occupational information, and job related skills. A cooperative arrangement be- tween the schools and businesses of the community provides train- ing stations which enable the stu- dent to acquire work experience and training with experienced personnel. How Many Languages Do You Speak? f 1 1. Mrs. Malitz assists several students with their Spanish. Seneca Valley's Foreign lan- guage department has, two parts to it, ESOL lEnglish for Speakers of Other Languagesl and regular for- iegn languages. ESOL is for non-English speak- ing students. They learn the lan- guage as well as the culture. This year ESOL represented nine dif- ferent languages. The other foriegn language classes are elective courses in which students learn the language and the culture of the various na- tions that speak the language they are studying. At the end of the year several select students travel to different countries to learn more about their culture and cus- toms. I. 2. Work Outside Of School 3,5 fx for Q 2 Q The Work Programs Depart- ment at Seneca Valley consists of the Cooperative Work Experi- ence- CWE, the Work Oriented Curriculum-WOC, and the Coop- erative Office Education-COE. The goal of the programs is the development of both specific and general skills which facilitate up- grading on the job. Students de- velop understanding of the structure of business with empha- sis on the employee's role as part of this structure. The Cooperative Work Experi- ence is a program of instruction designed to prepare students for entry into all basic fields of em- ployment not covered by other specifically designated coopera- tive education programs.
