SENECA'S SWIMTEAMZ Determination 84 Spirit The boys swim team ended their season with 3 wins and 2 losses in the division, and 3 wins, 5 losses overall. They finished second in the divisional championships. The girls finished with the same divisional and overall record as the boys, and placed fourth in the divisional champion- ships. The Co-Captains of the team were Elisabeth Minthorn, Kelly Lyons, and Sean Malony. The swim team had an overall enjoyable and successful year. There were exceptional performances by many of the swimmers, and even those who were not the stars of the team made some very impressive performances in the toughest events such as 200 lm, the 100 Fly, and the 500 Free. Though the team was small this year, the members held together well like one family- everyone helping each other. Though snow days and bad weather interferred with many of the planned practices, they were still able to pull off a good record and many close losses. Says Coach Elaine Robinson, The loss to the BCC boys team by one point was very heartbreaking. Noted as outstanding contributors for the Girls were Kelly Lyons, Elisabeth Minthorn, and Ellen Young. Ellen, being noted as one of the best and most versatile swimmers Seneca Valley had ever had, qualified for the Washington Metropolitan Inter Scholastic Swimming Championships in every event. She also continues to break many school records, some of which are already hers. Noted as outstanding boys were Mark Brodeur, Leo Dilling, and Sean Maloney, One of the team's greatest individual losses next year will be the absence of diver lon Nanto. Throughout his three years on the team, lon has broken the school diving record many times and also contributed to the improvement of his fellow divers. 2. at The Running Eagles Excel Although a district or state championship was not won this year, the winter track team had an excellent season. The purpose of this years team was to focus on the individual. Each run- ner set a goal for himself in hopes to attain it by the seasons end. Coach Robertson felt the team had an out- standing attitude and great cooperation from the athletes. He was also impressed by the sig- nificant progress made compared to the 1983- 1984 season. Mr. Robertson also goes on to say, A great group of people to spend time with . .. We had fun, worked hard, and exceeded our pre-season goals. The boys team placed second in the region while the girls finished fifth. Outstanding con- tributors for the boys were Sean Carpenter. Placing first in the 500 meters in the region and also setting school records in the 55 meter hur- dles and 500 meter run. Sean jackson was re- gional champion in the 300 meters.
