N o Pain o Gain No pain no gain is the motto used by the dedicated weight lifters at Seneca Valley. Not only do the football players go through the rigerous and tiresome task of lifting weights but many other athletic teams as well as teachers and those who just want to look good can be found pumping iron in the weight room. The weight room is well equipped with the standard universal system and different various free weights. In order to look good and stay in shape these people pay the price in strain and sweat. wifi' WZ. 'Z if .gi 1. They fin- ished with a record of 8-4 in the regular season and one win and one loss in the state regionals. Winning to Sprinbrook and Whitman were definite ups for the season, as was the team being seated first in the state regionals, AA division. The team made steady progress as the sea- son went on and for the most part played an aggressive season. says Coach, D. Mattes. Everyone had an excellent season, including Beth Abbott who led Montgomery County in field goals scored while Cathy Rempe placed fourth. 1. Seneca Valley in head to head competition with the opponent. Enthusiasm Makes A Winning Season The Varsity Football Team had what we, the students, considered to be a great season. lt was a disappointment, however, to the team especially the se- niors who had hoped to go to state this year. Though they ended the season with a record of 7-3, the general con- census was that they were good enough to win it all. The three games we did lose were heartbreakers. We lost to Springbrook 10-7 on the last play of the game after 2. Eric Braun heads for the Eagle goal line. 3. Eagles pile on! missing a field goal and having a touch- down called back. We lost 7-0 to Ken- nedy with another touchdown having been called back. We Iost to Gaithers- burg in overtime after having an 18-0 lead at halftime. Their were some highlights of the season: The first came when we beat previously unscored against Churchill 6-2. They were ranked 992 in the Metro area. We finished the season with con- vincing wins over AA teams Whitman and Wootton. Captains jeff Hoes, Andy Malloy, and Kevin Wilkes will all be missed as well as the 16 other Seniors who were the backbone of the team. They will be missed not only for their atheletic abili- ties but also for the great leadership and character they have shown for the past three years. jeff Hoes will long be re- membered as the school's first 1000 yard rusher. Good Luck in the future, Eagles!! V. Football l
