They adopted two families for Christmas and spent more than $300.00 on presents. The up coming 1987-88 members held a barbecue for the 86-87 members in the Seneca Park in May. The induction of the new members of National Honor Society was held April 15, 1987. FHA By Julie Brattin 'rhe FHA chapter was very active this year. The biggest project was the Fingerprinting. It went very well. A total of 163 kids participated in this event. Pictures were taken of the children and some identification cards were filled out. At Christmas the Chapter made vests, bibs, and sweats for the College View State School, and each member adopted 2 of the children. Each child received a gift from his sponsor. They really appreciated the things FHA had made. Jay Nunn was Santa Claus and all the kids loved him. Dinners are provided for every member by two officers every other month. Julie Brattin was the Regional Treasurer, and Susan Arwood was the Representative. For the fundraiser the chapter sold beef jerky. Most of the students bought some. At a $1.00 a stick. FHA s profit was $1553.00. The last event was the trip to Worlds of Fun! They rode a school bus there and back. Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed themselves! By Rod Camren, Senior The Spanish Club started the 86-87 school year by having a club fund raiser, selling Argus Posters for $2.00 each. The club has 11 Spanish speaking members. One rule is a person must have taken one year of Spanish to become a member of the club. The ciub bought phil-isophical Spanish written posters which hang in the high school’s halls and are changed every two weeks, in place of new Spanish posters. FT A climbs the wall to success by helping students get involved with the learning the skill of teaching. The students learn this by cadet teaching at the elementary and the middle school. This gives the students the exposure to teaching experience and aids them in making a decision to become a teacher. The Future Teachers of America emblem shows the idea of freedom and a burning desire of better justice. FT A started this year with several events such as Headstart-in Neosho, and National Education Week, in which the teachers receive a apple and aspirin for the students problems they cause. GUYS By Julie Brattin Coach Mike Yust, who is the Seneca weightlifting coach, states, Weightlifting is for everyone, not just the athletes. It helps the person to become a stronger person both physically and mentally, and it is quickly becoming the number one recreational pastime. The guys workout four days a week, and max out at the end of each quarter to see how much they have increased. They lift 70-90% of their max, five times in five sets. Weightlifting is a sport where you get 100% results from 100% effort,” said Coach Yust. Daily notebooks are kept, checked weekly and turned in at the end of the quarter for a grade. GALS Patti Killian is the girls weightlifting coach. They lift four days a week and the fifth day is for basketball or softball depending on how hot it is! Coach picks up notebooks about once every other month. The girls are graded on how hard they work. They max out at the end of every quarter. Killian states, “I feel that the girls who work hard definitely gain something from weightlifting, in other words, what you put into it is what you get out of it.” EAGLE PICHER INDUSTRIES Commercial Products Department Seneca, MO 776-2256 (Congratulations (Class of 87 (JCest XiJis teS front Seneca CCagle f icher CCmplogeeS 46 WARRIOR STAFF WORKS OVERTIME Kristi WhitehiU, Editor. Chemistry Prepares Students for College By Kim Young Soph “Since Chemistry II is a college prep class, my goal for this year is to prepare my students to the best of my ability and theirs so that they will be ready for college”, stated Ms. Janet Drake, Chemistry-Lab teacher. So for this year there has been a real enthusiasm in learning all about the wonders of science. The students are hard at work on their experiments, which are always stimulating. Although there is a lot of fun involved in the labs, chemistry is a difficult subject, and now that they have seen chemical reactions, they are learning the hows and whys of them. :h Revolution when they read A Tale of Two Cities [Photo by Sandberg) Juniors Todd Bennett English — a far, far better thing “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done ..thus ends the seven-week study of Charles Dickens' classic, A Tale of Two Cities, for the Short Story Nov-el Class. The English classes at Seneca High offer a well-rounded curriculum for its students. While the freshmen are studying parts of speech, the sophomores are writing paragraphs. While the juniors are trying to keep their infinitives from being split and their participles from dangling, the seniors are deep into writing research papers and analysis papers. Literature is also important at Seneca. Freshmen girls are seen crying over Juliet’s love for Romeo and sophomore boys are seen assuming roles of Brutus and Marc Antony. 51 CLERICAL By Julie Brattin Mrs. Jennifer Hunt is the clerical teacher. This year there were 10 girls in this two hour class. Six students split the course and had it either first or second hour. The girls learned how to operate several machines; typewriter, calculator, transcribers, computers, and timeclocks. They learned filing skills, word processing, and computers. Serendipity was the second semester course. This was where all the girls took part in an office program and become - office manager, accountant, simulator, sales clerk, receptionist, or shipping clerk. They took turns at each position, lasting one week, to learn each job. DATA PROCESSING Mrs. Aleta Platner teaches this class fourth and seventh hours. One semester is Data Processing and the other is Business Law. Business Law is where the students learn basic law systems. The Data Processing classes learn BASIC Computer programs, computer applications, word processing, data base, and spreadsheet. In general, they learn the basics in computers. The juniors were busy this year preparing for several events. They decorated the gym for the football homecoming dance and set up the stage for homecoming pictures. Even though they got out of class to do it, it wasn't such an easy job During the games the juniors also have to work in the concession stand. This is done to raise money for the Junior-Se-nrer Prom in which they are also responsible for arranging. The Prom is the main event and the one that is looked forward to by all students involved. Being a junior may not be easy, but it must be fun since you're only one step away from being a senior. “There an some great people ben at Seneca, and its been a great veer!
